Wingman Metrics
The name tells you exactly what to expect, and the wine list delivers on that promise — no pretense, no deep cuts, just a short stack of recognizable bottles priced for a neighborhood bar crowd. It's the kind of list where you can order a glass without overthinking it, which is honestly sometimes exactly what you want. Don't show up hunting for Burgundy.
The list leans hard on California with bottles like B Side Cabernet and Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay doing the heavy lifting — these are brands people recognize from the grocery store, which is both the point and the limitation. Argentina gets a nod via La Posta and Bodini Malbecs, and there's a Yalumba Pinot Noir from Australia rounding out the New World tour. France and Italy are present but clearly not the focus. At 24+ labels, it's not thin, but don't come looking for anything that'll surprise you.
By-the-glass specifics aren't listed clearly, but with a list this size and this vibe, expect the usual suspects available as pours. The good news is the bottle prices are low enough that splitting a bottle barely costs more than two glasses anywhere else in town. No evidence of rotating pours or a curated BTG program.
Pike Road Pinot Noir — $32
At 60% markup over a $20 retail bottle, this is the least painful option on the list. Pike Road punches above its price point for Oregon Pinot — it's approachable, not watered-down, and you're not getting gouged.
Fess Parker Riesling
Nobody orders Riesling at a bar and grill, which means this bottle probably sits longer than it should. Fess Parker makes a solid Santa Barbara Riesling that skews dry — it's a genuinely interesting pour that most tables will walk right past in favor of the Chard.
Diseño Malbec
At a 150% markup over a $12 retail bottle, this is the worst value math on the list. La Posta Malbec is right there and a significantly better wine. No reason to touch this one.
La Posta Malbec + Burger
This is a bar and kitchen — there's almost certainly a burger on the menu. La Posta is juicy, dark-fruited, and built for exactly this kind of red meat situation. It won't challenge you, and that's the whole point.
✔️ The Bottom Line
No Frills does exactly what it says — this is a neighborhood bar wine list, not a destination. The markups are too steep for what's in the glass, but the price ceilings are low enough that the damage is limited. Come for the bar vibe, order the Pike Road, and don't stress it.
Downtown Norfolk · Norfolk · American
Mermaid Winery is a genuine wine destination that happens to be in Norfolk — and yes, that still surprises us a little. The pricing leans steep and the staff isn't running a Master Sommelier class, but the list is deep where it counts and Wednesday half-price night is one of the better wine deals in the region.

Virginia Beach · Norfolk · Steakhouse
Ruth's Chris Virginia Beach won't surprise you on wine, and a few markups are hard to forgive, but the depth is real and the by-the-glass program is better than most steakhouses at this price point. If you're here for a special occasion steak and want a bottle that won't embarrass the meal, you'll find it — just avoid the house pours and do a little homework first.

Taste Unlimited is a gourmet market that quietly outclasses most sit-down restaurants on wine curation and blows them out completely on price. If you're in Norfolk and haven't figured out that this is also a wine stop, you've been leaving money on the table.

Vintage Tavern has no business having a wine list this serious in a suburb of Norfolk — and we mean that as a high compliment. The markups take some of the shine off, but a sommelier on staff, 400 bottles, and a genuine Virginia section make this the best wine destination for miles around.

Todd Jurich's Bistro is the most serious wine list in Norfolk, full stop — but you'll pay for that seriousness, especially on the French side. Go for the sommelier's guidance, order the Barboursville, and enjoy the fact that a room this focused on wine exists in downtown Norfolk at all.

Varia is doing something genuinely rare in a mid-sized market — building a wine program that would hold its own in Chicago or D.C. The markup isn't always charitable, but the depth, the cruvinet by-the-glass program, and the evident expertise on staff make this one worth the trip across town.
