When the wine list at a resort bar runs 236 labels and opens with Pascal Mazet Premier Cru Champagne and Cobb Riesling, you know someone with actual taste built this thing. Scout Field Bar sits on the grounds of Montage Healdsburg with vineyard views and the kind of calm that costs money — and the wine list is fully in on that energy. This is not the generic hotel wine program where Kendall-Jackson fills three slots.
The list leans hard into Sonoma's greatest hits — Russian River Pinot, Sonoma Coast Chardonnay, Alexander Valley Cab — and mostly picks the right producers. Kistler Les Noisetiers, Martinelli Bella Vigna, Senses, Fathers & Daughters: these aren't filler names. There's a smart French sidebar with Ruinart Blanc de Blancs, Arnaud Lambert Cab Franc from the Loire, and Domaine Laroche Chablis that gives the list some old-world ballast without turning into a geography lesson. The Montage exclusive 'Surveyor' bottle is a fun proprietary touch, though details are thin. The one gap: we'd love more Anderson Valley and Mendocino depth given how close both appellations are.
Eighteen pours by the glass is a serious commitment for a bar program, and the range here is genuinely good — Champagne, Chablis, Côtes de Provence rosé, local Pinot, and Cab all represented. Prices run $17 on the low end up to $48, which is resort pricing but not absurd if you're holding a Kistler stem in a gorgeous outdoor setting. Rotation feels curated rather than reactive — don't expect a lot of surprise additions week to week.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley 2020 — $40/glass
Jordan is a perennial Alexander Valley benchmark and at $40 a pour, you're getting a wine that drinks far above its price point relative to the rest of the glass list here. It's the one that doesn't make you wince when the bill arrives.
Leo Steen Chenin Blanc 'Peaberry', Mendocino 2022
Most people at a Sonoma resort bar are going straight for Chardonnay or Pinot. Leo Steen's Chenin Blanc is a genuinely exciting pour — precise, mineral-driven, and made from a producer who quietly does some of the most interesting white wine work in California. Skip past it and you're leaving the best thing on the list behind.
Château d'Esclans Whispering Angel Rosé, Côtes de Provence 2023
Whispering Angel is fine, but it's also the most over-marketed bottle of Provence rosé on the planet and you'll pay a resort premium for something you can find at any grocery store. There's better drinking elsewhere on this list.
Cobb Riesling 'Cole Ranch', Mendocino 2023 + Charcuterie Board
Cole Ranch is one of the most distinctive Riesling sites in California — high elevation, cool, intensely mineral. Against a salty, fatty charcuterie spread on a warm Sonoma evening, it cuts through beautifully and makes you feel like you've discovered something. Because you have.
The Bottom Line
Scout Field Bar is what happens when a luxury resort actually invests in its wine program instead of phoning it in — the list is deep, the producers are legit, and the setting makes everything taste better. Pricing is undeniably steep, but if you're already at Montage, you knew what you were signing up for.

Handline earns its Wild Card badge not because the wine list is extraordinary on paper, but because the combination — California seafood, counter service, string lights, Sonoma-focused wine — shouldn't work this well and somehow does. If you're road-tripping through wine country and want a low-pressure lunch with local pours and grilled oysters, this is exactly the kind of detour worth making. Just go in knowing the wine list is supporting cast, not the headline act.

Stark's is the rare steakhouse that treats wine as something other than an afterthought or a cash grab. The list is compact but genuinely considered, markups are fair across the board, and the full bottle-to-glass availability is a policy every restaurant should copy. If you're eating in Healdsburg and want to drink well without overpaying, this is a legitimate stop.

Ciao Bruto is running one of the smallest and most coherent wine lists in wine country, which is either audacious or brilliant — probably both. If you want a 200-label deep-dive, go somewhere else. If you want eight smart picks at prices that won't make you wince, this is the move in Healdsburg.

Maison is what happens when someone builds a wine bar list with genuine curiosity instead of a regional checklist — you're in the heart of Sonoma Wine Country and the list keeps pointing you toward Mosel Riesling, Douro whites, and 1934 Madeira. The by-the-glass program alone justifies a visit, and the pricing is fair enough that you can explore without flinching. If you're in Healdsburg and you actually care about wine, this is the stop.

The Spinster Sisters are doing something genuinely unusual in Healdsburg: running an adventurous, globally-minded wine list at prices that don't make you do math before ordering a second glass. If you care even a little about wine, this list is worth your time — and if you're a local Sonoma drinker who wants to try something that isn't another Valley Chardonnay, this is exactly the detour you've been looking for.

The Marshall Store earns its reputation as a low-key, scenic spot for fresh West Coast oysters and smoked salmon — and if that's your mission, it delivers. But the wine program is effectively an afterthought: undocumented, uncurated, and not a reason to visit. Bring a bottle from one of the Healdsburg producers down the road, check the corkage policy at the door, and spend your energy on the food.
