Wingman Metrics
Twenty-six labels sounds like nothing — until you actually read the list and realize someone made real choices here. No lazy Pinot Grigio filler, no obligatory Malbec from nowhere. Little Wine House has a point of view, and it shows up in the first column.
The list touches Jura, Alsace, Alto Adige, New Zealand, and California's Central Coast without feeling like a geography lesson — it's curated, not scattered. Bubbles alone span Prosecco, Crémant du Jura, and a Crémant Brut Rosé from Cave de Ribeauville, which is more interesting than most wine bars three times this size. On the red side, they skip the easy Napa Cab route and throw in a McGrail Petit Verdot, a Lava Cap Sangiovese, and an Eberle GSM that nod to California's less-celebrated corners. The one gap: if you're hunting old-world reds beyond the Caldora Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, you'll come up short.
With 24 of 26 bottles available by the glass, this is essentially a full pour-everything program — rare and appreciated. Glass prices run $10–$22, which is genuinely reasonable for San Jose given what's being poured. Rotation appears fixed rather than seasonal, but when the selection is this accessible, it's hard to complain too loudly.
Eberle 'Cotes-du-Robles' GSM — $64
Eberle's Paso Robles GSM consistently punches above its weight — earthy, structured, and built for a table. At $64 a bottle in a wine bar setting, that's a fair ask for a wine that retails around $22–$25. You're not getting gouged, and you're drinking something with actual personality.
Kettmeir Pinot Bianco
Alto Adige Pinot Bianco is one of Italy's most undersung whites — crisp, mineral, quietly complex — and most people walk right past it for Sauvignon Blanc. Kettmeir is a reliable producer, and at $60 it's the kind of bottle that makes you look smart at the table.
Orin Swift 'Advice from John' Merlot
Orin Swift is fine, but at $84 a bottle you're paying a premium for a label that's become a safe corporate pick at every mid-tier wine spot in California. The McGrail Petit Verdot is $5 cheaper and far more interesting.
Cadre 'Sea Queen' Albariño + Cheese board
Albariño's bright acidity and saline edge are made for a well-assembled cheese spread — it cuts through the fat, lifts the salt, and resets your palate between bites. The Cadre 'Sea Queen' is a coastal-leaning California take that earns its name.
The Bottom Line
Little Wine House is doing something genuinely rare: a small list that actually required thought, priced like someone who wants you to come back. If you're in San Jose and want a glass of something interesting without a lecture attached, this is your spot.

Poppy & Claro's wine program exists to check a box, not to excite you. Unless Flowers Chardonnay by the bottle is exactly what you came for, the cocktail menu might be a better bet.

Ancora Vino is the kind of small, focused bottle shop that makes you realize how much dead weight most wine lists carry. If you're anywhere near San Jose and curious about natural wine, obscure Italian reds, or just want something genuinely weird and good for under $25, this place deserves your attention.

Fogo de Chão San Jose is a meat destination, full stop — the wine list exists as a formality, not a feature. Order the Salton sparkling to start, grab the Malbec for the meat parade, and don't expect anything more than that.

Be.Steak.A is doing more with its wine list than most South Bay steakhouses bother to attempt — the sommelier is real, the selections have personality, and the Massican pick alone earns genuine respect. The markups are on the steeper side, which is expected at this level, but the list has enough character that you're paying for something worth the splurge.

GrandView is doing exactly what a mountaintop steakhouse with jaw-dropping views over Santa Clara Valley is supposed to do — it's feeding the occasion, not the curiosity. Bring someone you want to impress, order the Mt. Brave, and enjoy the sunset.

Vino Volo clears the airport bar bar by a comfortable margin — better-than-expected service, a list that at least tries, and a seat that makes a delay feel like less of a punishment. Just don't look too hard at the markup and you'll be fine.
