Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Liam's reads exactly like what a South Texas steakhouse should look like — California Cabs up front, a few international ringers, and nothing that's going to scare off the table ordering a ribeye. It's not trying to be anything it isn't, which we can respect. What surprises you is that the pricing is genuinely reasonable, which isn't something we say lightly about steakhouse wine lists.
The backbone here is California Cabernet, and it's a well-chosen one — running from approachable picks like Freak Show and Silver Palm up through Honig, Duckhorn, and Cakebread for anyone feeling like a Napa splurge. Beyond the Cabs, there's a Duchman Texas red blend giving the list some local identity, Altos Ibéricos representing Rioja, and Pizzella Malbec and Susana Balbo Cabernet flying the Argentina flag. Pinot Noir fans get Boen and Siduri, both solid California options. The white side is Chardonnay-heavy — Sea Sun, Harken, La Crema, Stags' Leap — which makes sense for the crowd, even if explorers will find it a little one-note.
The glass program is genuinely generous for a Brownsville steakhouse — somewhere in the 16–20 option range with pours landing between $9 and $15. There's even a 10-year tawny-style port on the list, which is a smart call for anyone finishing a prime rib with dessert. Rotation doesn't appear to be happening much, but the selection is broad enough that the static lineup still works.
Altos Ibéricos Rioja Crianza — $9/glass
A $14 retail bottle poured at $9 a glass is already fair math, but Tempranillo with a steak is an underplayed combination that most tables here are sleeping on. Earthy, food-friendly, and way more interesting than reaching for another Cab.
Duchman Grape Growers Red Blend
The only Texas wine on the list and it's easy to scroll past when Duckhorn and Cakebread are sitting nearby. Don't. Duchman makes honest, food-friendly Texas reds that hold their own at the table, and ordering local at a Brownsville institution feels right.
Böen Pinot Noir
At $10 a glass it sounds like a deal until you check retail — this is an $18 bottle that drinks like one. Perfectly fine wine, but Pinot Noir doesn't have a natural home next to a ribeye, and there are better ways to spend your pour budget here.
Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon + Ribeye
Paso Robles Cab has the fruit weight and structure to stand up to a well-marbled ribeye without the austere tannins that can make a younger Napa bottle feel like a wrestling match with your steak. Austin Hope is the sweet spot — it's a Paso that acts like it's been somewhere.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Liam's isn't a wine destination, but it doesn't need to be — the list is priced fairly, the range covers the steakhouse bases well, and a few smart picks make it worth more than a glance. If you're in Brownsville and eating a steak, you could do a lot worse than what's in this glass.

The Butcher's Son isn't coming for any wine awards, but if you time it right — Tuesday or Wednesday after 5 — the half-price bottles turn a steep list into a genuinely good deal. Come for the steak, stay for the discount Cab.
