Walking into Lava Lounge, you're not exactly expecting a wine destination — and the list confirms that. It's short, it's approachable, and it's priced like a neighborhood bar that actually respects your wallet. That last part matters more than it sounds.
The list leans heavily on recognizable, easy-drinking labels — La Marca Prosecco, Wycliff Brut, and a smattering of Italian and California options that won't challenge anyone but won't embarrass anyone either. There's no Old World deep dive, no indie producers, no regional adventure here. What's interesting is the Stoller Pinot Noir from Oregon slipping onto the list — a legit wine that earns its spot and sticks out like a grown-up at a house party. The gaps are wide, but for a candlelit bar in Tremont where the lumpia is the main event, this list does exactly what it needs to.
Somewhere between 6 and 10 options by the glass, which is more than fine for the format. You're looking at sparkling and lighter pours that fit the dim, casual room. Rotation doesn't appear to be a thing here — what's on the menu is what's on the menu.
Stoller Pinot Noir Oregon — $14
Retails around $12 and pours for $14 a glass — that's practically at cost. Stoller is a solid Willamette producer and getting it at this price in a bar setting is genuinely rare.
Stoller Pinot Noir Oregon
Most people scanning this list will default to the Prosecco and move on. Don't. The Stoller Pinot is punching well above its price point in this context and it's the most serious wine on the menu.
Wycliff Brut
Wycliff is bulk California sparkling that retail grocery stores stock for under $8. When La Marca Prosecco is sitting right next to it for likely a similar price, there's no reason to go here.
La Marca Prosecco + Lumpia (Crispy Egg Rolls)
The bubbles and light sweetness in the Prosecco cut right through the fried crunch and savory filling of the lumpia. It's a casual, unexpected combo that actually works.
🎲 The Bottom Line
Lava Lounge isn't a wine bar and doesn't pretend to be — but that Stoller pour at near-retail pricing makes it a Wild Card worth knowing about. Come for the atmosphere and the lumpia, order the Pinot, and leave impressed by what you didn't expect.
University Circle · Cleveland · Regional
Table 45 is a dependable hotel wine list that punches above its Cleveland zip code — it's not adventurous, but it's not embarrassing either. Send a friend here if they want recognizable, quality bottles in a proper setting; steer them toward Jordan and Drouhin and away from the obvious crowd-pleasers.

Flats East Bank · Cleveland · Italian
Lago East Bank is a legitimately strong Italian wine program in a city that doesn't always get credit for having them — the WS Award of Excellence since 2023 is earned. Markups keep it from being a great value play, but if you're going to drop money on a bottle of Barolo anywhere in Cleveland, this is the room to do it.

Shaker Square · Cleveland · French
Edwins is one of the most genuinely interesting restaurant stories in Cleveland — a fine-dining French program run by people earning their place in the industry — and the wine list is good enough to stand on its own merits, mission aside. Send a friend here and tell them to order French across the board, from the escargot to the bottle.

Woodmere · Cleveland · American Steakhouse
J. Gilbert's is a reliable, well-stocked steakhouse list that plays it safe with California heavyweights and charges accordingly — nothing groundbreaking, but the Sunday wine deal is one of the better recurring specials in Cleveland and reason enough to plan around it. Come for the filet, drink better than you expected to.

The Centro is a reliable pour for downtown Cleveland — the list won't surprise you, the prices will sting a little, but it's a competent wine program for a hotel steakhouse anchored in a beautiful room. Send a friend here if they want familiar bottles and a good steak; steer them elsewhere if they're looking for anything off the beaten path.

J. Alexander's has no business having this good of a markup on their wine list, but here we are. It's a chain, it's comfortable, and it's offering pours like Austin Hope Cabernet at prices that would embarrass half the independent restaurants in Cleveland — send a friend here without hesitation.

The Observatory is a great bar with decent food that treats wine as a box to check rather than a reason to come in. Drink the beer, drink the cocktails — but if you must order wine, go in with eyes open on the markups.

Union Cafe is a legitimately great bar with a genuinely terrible wine list — come for the drag, the patio, and the Stack Burger, and order a cocktail unless you truly don't care what's in your glass. The pricing is shockingly fair for what it is, but what it is is Woodbridge.

The Seelbach Bar is not your destination for wine discovery, but it's not trying to be — and at least the daily half-price program on select bottles gives you a legitimate reason to order a real glass of wine instead of defaulting to bourbon all night. Come for the room, stay for the Cyrus at half off.
