RagingWine reviewed Kana Winery Tasting Roomβs wine list and gave it The Wild Card β RagingWineβs Vibe-Check rating. How RagingWine reviews wine lists β
Wingman Metrics
Walking into Kana, you immediately clock that this isn't a stuffy winery experience β high ceilings, big windows, and the hum of live music on weekends make it feel more like a neighborhood bar that happens to make really good wine. The list is short, but it's clearly the work of people who know exactly what they're doing with Yakima Valley fruit. Seven wines, all of them theirs, no filler.
Kana leans hard into Rhone varietals, which is a smart and underplayed move in a Washington wine scene still dominated by Cab and Merlot conversations. The lineup skews toward approachable but considered β a Chardonnay, a Riesling, a value white blend of Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Riesling, plus their Dark Star red blend anchoring the red side. Gaps? Sure β there's no deep vertical, no reserve tier to geek out over, and if you want a Syrah flight you're out of luck. But what's here is focused, honest Washington winemaking with a Rhone backbone that most tasting rooms in the state aren't even attempting.
All seven wines are available by the glass, which is basically the entire list β so the by-the-glass program is the list, full stop. Entry point is a $10 tasting fee that lets you work through the range before committing to a pour, which is a genuinely smart and low-pressure way to explore. No rotating guest pours or outside bottles, but that's the point β you're here for Kana's wine.
Pinot Gris / Pinot Blanc / Riesling White Blend β Tasting included
A three-varietal white blend built for real-world drinking β the kind of everyday white that overdelivers on texture and freshness without asking you to think too hard about it. In Yakima, where the growing season does the heavy lifting, blends like this punch well above their price class.
Riesling
Yakima Valley Riesling is genuinely one of Washington's most underrated wines, and most people walk right past it to grab something red. Kana's version sits in the off-dry lane where the Valley's natural acidity keeps it from going cloying β it's the kind of wine that converts skeptics if they'd just give it a shot.
Chardonnay
Nothing wrong with it on paper, but in a room built around Rhone focus and Yakima's natural strengths, ordering the Chardonnay feels like going to a great taco spot and ordering the quesadilla. You're here for what makes Kana distinct β the Chardonnay isn't it.
Dark Star Red Blend + Charcuterie board
Kana's tasting room leans into a casual snacking setup, and a Rhone-influenced red blend like Dark Star β built on structure and dark fruit β is exactly what you want alongside cured meats and aged cheese. The savory richness in the food mirrors the wine's weight without fighting it.
π² The Bottom Line
Kana is a Wild Card in the best possible way β a downtown Yakima tasting room doing focused, Rhone-leaning Washington wines in a room that actually has energy. If you're passing through Yakima and think you know what to expect from a winery tasting room, Kana will pleasantly mess with that assumption.

Mickey's Pub isn't a wine bar and doesn't pretend to be, but the Wednesday half-price bottle deal makes it genuinely worth a stop if you're already in the neighborhood. Stick to the Pacific Rim, skip the Conundrum, and enjoy the fact that you're drinking Columbia Valley Riesling in Yakima for next to nothing.
