Wingman Metrics
Pull up to 9010 East Harney Lane and the list is essentially the estate β every bottle grown on land the family has farmed for generations. It's focused to the point of being almost stubborn, and that's exactly the point. Lodi doesn't need to apologize for anything when the old vines look like this.
Eleven labels deep, all estate, all Lodi AVA β which sounds limiting until you realize the range quietly covers Zinfandel, Primitivo, Tempranillo, Petite Sirah, AlbariΓ±o, Chardonnay, and a RosΓ© without flinching. The Lizzy James Vineyard Old Vine Zinfandel is the crown jewel, pulling from some of the oldest vines on the property. Tempranillo and AlbariΓ±o in Lodi aren't accidents β the Mettler family has been pushing this AVA beyond its Zin-only reputation for years, and it shows. Library wines round out the back catalog for anyone who wants to dig deeper.
By-the-glass specifics aren't published, but tasting room format means you're working through a flight rather than ordering individual pours β which is actually a better deal if you want to cover the range. Ask the staff what's pouring that day; flights here tend to be structured and well-guided. Don't expect a rotating BTG chalkboard situation β this isn't that kind of place.
Harney Lane AlbariΓ±o β $46.50
Estate-grown AlbariΓ±o in Lodi at this price is a genuine find β bright, food-friendly, and priced like they actually want you to drink it rather than just admire it.
Harney Lane Tempranillo
Most people walk in looking for Zinfandel and walk right past this. Lodi's warm days and cool delta breezes make it legitimately good Tempranillo country, and this bottle doesn't get nearly the attention it deserves.
Harney Lane Patriarch's Promise, Lot 20
At $66 it's the top of the list, and while it's probably the most ambitious wine on the menu, you're paying a prestige premium in a tasting room context where the estate Zinfandels at $60 are already doing the heavy lifting.
Harney Lane Lizzy James Vineyard Old Vine Zinfandel + Charcuterie board from the tasting room
Old vine Zin at this concentration level wants something with fat and salt to push back β cured meats and aged cheese give it exactly that, and the fruit doesn't bully the food when you've got the right anchor.
π² The Bottom Line
This is the kind of single-estate tasting room that makes Lodi worth the detour β focused, honest, and priced like they'd rather you come back than gouge you once. If you're still writing off Lodi as bulk wine country, Harney Lane is the correction.

Market Tavern isn't a wine destination, but it earns its place as the kind of reliable neighborhood spot where you won't feel bad about ordering a second glass. If you're in Lodi and skipping the local bottles, you're doing it wrong.

Zin Bistro is the rare restaurant that actually belongs in its wine region β it champions Lodi producers with conviction and gives old-vine Zinfandel the platform it deserves. If you've been sleeping on Lodi as a wine destination, dinner here is a fast education.

Guantonio's is doing something genuinely rare: running a focused, producer-specific, locally-rooted wine program inside a casual pizza restaurant, and doing it at prices that don't punish you for being curious. If you're eating in Lodi, this is where you drink.

LVVR is a genuine Wild Card β a serious sparkling program planted in the last place most California wine drinkers would look for one. Onus isn't trying to be a destination wine list β it's a focused estate pour in a shared Lodi tasting room, and at $10β$20 for a flight, the price of admission is low enough that curiosity alone justifies the stop. If you're passing through Lodi and want to understand why the region is having a moment, this is a fine place to start.

If you're in Lodi and haven't done the Michael David tasting room, you're leaving a gap in your California wine map. The prices are absurdly fair at the source, the Inkblot lineup rewards the curious, and the energy makes it easy to stay longer than you planned.

Van Ruiten is the kind of unpretentious, estate-focused tasting room that makes a strong argument for Lodi as a serious wine region rather than a bulk-production afterthought. Bottle prices that top out around $45 and flights starting at $15 make it one of the better-value wine experiences in the Central Valley β send your friends, and tell them to go on a Sunday for the live music.
