Walking into Handwritten's Yountville tasting room, the vibe is immediately intimate — boutique in the truest sense, not just as a marketing word. The focus is singular: Napa Valley wines poured with intention, framed by artisan bites that make the whole thing feel less like a transaction and more like a hosted dinner. It's earnest, and that counts for something on a street full of tasting rooms competing for the same tourist dollar.
The list is tight — six to ten wines depending on the flight — and every bottle carries the Handwritten label, so you're here to get to know one producer, not to explore a region. The Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is the anchor, which is expected given the address, and the Merlot and Red Blend round out a lineup that leans hard into classic Napa reds. There's no white wine detour, no rosé palate cleanser — this is red wine country and they're not pretending otherwise. If you came hoping for range across producers or regions, this isn't your room; if you came to understand what Handwritten is doing in Napa, it delivers.
This is a tasting room, not a restaurant, so there's no conventional by-the-glass program to speak of — you're choosing between the Classic flight ($75, waived with a $100 per-person purchase) or the more premium Bread & Butter flight ($100, waived with $150 per-person purchase). The tasting fee structure is effectively a minimum spend, which is standard Napa practice but worth knowing before you sit down. Rotation between the two flights isn't well-documented, so what you see is largely what you get.
Handwritten Wines Classic Tasting Flight — $75
If you spend $100 per person on bottles to take home — which is easy to do after tasting through their Cab — the flight fee disappears entirely. That's a solid workaround in a region where tasting fees rarely come with a redemption path this clean.

In a room anchored by Cabernet, the Merlot gets overlooked by default. But Napa Merlot done right is a completely different animal from the stuff that killed the grape's reputation, and Handwritten's version deserves its own moment in the flight rather than being skipped over on the way to the Cab.
Handwritten Wines Bread & Butter Tasting Flight
At $100 per person with a $150 minimum spend to waive the fee, the premium flight is a significant commitment for a single-producer lineup. Unless you're already sold on the brand and ready to buy up, the Classic flight gets you to the same wines for less exposure.
Handwritten Wines Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley + Artisan tasting bites
The Cab's structure and weight need something with enough fat and salt to stand up to it — and the artisan bites on the tasting menu, particularly anything aged or cured, give it exactly that. It's a short menu with a clear purpose, and the Cabernet is why it exists.
