Solid Bistro Pours, Markup Needs a Reality Check

Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Green Pig Bistro reads like a confident neighborhood bistro that knows its crowd — approachable names, a decent spread of regions, and nothing too weird. It's curated enough to feel intentional, but not so deep that you'll spend 20 minutes deciding. The French-American vibe of the room carries over onto the page.
The list hits the expected marks: Provence rosé, Oregon Pinot Noir, a Cava and a Prosecco for bubbles, and some solid European whites like the Cantina Colterenzio Pinot Grigio from Alto Adige. The El Enemigo Chardonnay from Argentina is a legitimately interesting outlier that shows someone on the team was paying attention. That said, the red wine side leans heavily on familiar California names — The Prisoner Merlot, Meiomi, Decoy, Juggernaut — which get the job done but don't exactly push boundaries. There's a noticeable gap in French reds, which feels like a missed opportunity for a bistro flying this particular flag.
Eleven pours by the glass is a respectable count for a neighborhood bistro, covering bubbles, whites, rosé, and reds without redundancy. The $12–$18 glass range is reasonable for Arlington, and the inclusion of the Sabina Bieler Père & Fils Rosé from Provence and the Jezebel Pinot Noir from Oregon gives the BTG list some actual personality. Rotation doesn't appear to be a strong suit here — expect the same lineup on repeat visits.
El Enemigo Chardonnay, Argentina — $46
Argentine Chardonnay from Adrianna Vineyard terroir doesn't show up on many bistro lists, and at this price point it's the most interesting bottle you can order here. It's doing something different while the rest of the list plays it safe.
Ramon Canals Cava
Most tables are going to reach for the Prosecco on autopilot. Don't. A good Cava brings more complexity, better bubbles, and usually a lower tab. Ramon Canals is a family producer in the Penedès making serious traditional-method sparkling — it's the smarter start to the meal.
Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay California 2022
At $46 on the menu versus $15 at your local Total Wine, this is a 200-plus percent markup on a wine that's fine but hardly exciting. You can do better on this list for the same money — or less.
Jezebel Pinot Noir, Oregon + Duck Confit
Oregon Pinot and duck is a classic combination for good reason — the wine's red fruit and earthy undertone cut through the richness of the confit without overpowering it. It's the kind of pairing that makes a Tuesday night feel like a occasion.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Green Pig Bistro is a solid neighborhood wine spot that earns its keep with a thoughtful-enough list and a few genuinely interesting picks — but the markups on familiar bottles are hard to ignore. Go for the El Enemigo and the duck, skip the K-J, and you'll have a good night.
Shirlington · Arlington · American Brasserie
Carlyle won't change your relationship with wine, but it won't ruin it either — and on Tuesday, when everything on the bottle list is half off, it briefly becomes one of the better deals in Shirlington. Come for the prime rib, order the Jordan, and call it a good night.

Westover · Arlington · Turkish and Mediterranean
Maya Bistro isn't a wine destination, but Monday half-price bottles and legitimately interesting Turkish pours make it a Wild Card worth knowing about. Come for the pide, stay for the Angora — just don't touch the Oyster Bay.

Ballston · Arlington · New England–inspired seafood & raw bar
Salt Line Ballston isn't trying to be a wine destination, but the list is smarter and more purposeful than most seafood spots in this price range. Send a friend here for oysters and Muscadet and they'll thank you.

National Landing / Pentagon City · Arlington · Southern & Korean-influenced American
Succotash Prime's wine list is exactly what you'd expect from a polished upscale Southern spot in a hotel-adjacent dining corridor — safe, recognizable, and priced for expense accounts. We'd send a friend here for a reliable night out, not a wine destination.

National Landing / Crystal City · Arlington · Modern Italian
Corso is a dependable Italian wine list in a neighborhood that could easily get away with doing much less — it doesn't dazzle, but it doesn't disappoint either. If the Wednesday half-price bottle rumor holds up when you call ahead, it might just tip into genuinely great value territory.

Liberty To-Go is a genuine wild card — a tavern wine shop hybrid with a fortified wine section that would embarrass most dedicated wine bars, all priced without the usual Arlington markup. Come for the Barolo, stay for the Sherry flight you didn't know you needed.
