Walking into Grato, we're greeted by a polished Italian menu and a wine list that feels like it was assembled by someone who attended one Italian wine seminar and called it a day. The vibe suggests the restaurant focuses on food first, wine second — which isn't necessarily bad, but it shows.
The list leans heavily on Tuscany and Piedmont crowd-pleasers with predictable pricing that reflects the Palm Beach zip code more than the actual bottles. You'll find your Barolos and Brunellos, likely a Super Tuscan or two, and probably a safe Pinot Grigio for those who order white wine but don't really want to think about it. Given the Italian focus, we'd expect to see some interesting regional deep cuts — Etna Rosso, Friuli whites, maybe a Lambrusco for fun — but the evidence suggests they're playing it safer than a trust fund. The selection does what it needs to do for the tourist crowd and local regulars who want recognizable names, but it won't surprise anyone who's spent time drinking in Italy.
Glass pours are likely limited to the usual suspects: a Pinot Grigio, a Chianti, maybe a Prosecco. Nothing rotates, nothing challenges, nothing makes you want to order a second glass just to explore. The program feels set-and-forget, which means you're drinking the same pours in January that were on the list in July — and probably will be next year too.
Planeta La Segreta Rosso — $42
Sicilian blend that delivers more complexity than the price suggests, especially if they're pouring the current vintage
Foradori Teroldego
If it's on the list, this indigenous Trentino red offers savory complexity most people skip for Sangiovese
Any Ruffino Chianti over $50
Palm Beach markup on grocery store juice — you're paying for location, not quality
Mastroberardino Fiano di Avellino + Branzino or any crudo
Southern Italian white with mineral backbone cuts through rich seafood without fighting it
✔️ The Bottom Line
Grato does what it needs to for Palm Beach Italian dining — safe wines at predictable prices that won't scare anyone off. If you're here for the food and want a bottle that won't embarrass you, you'll be fine. Just don't expect discoveries.

La Goulue is a reliable, well-curated French wine list with real sommelier care behind it — just go in knowing the prices reflect the zip code. If you're here for classic Bordeaux and Burgundy with your duck confit, you're in exactly the right place.

Sant Ambroeus Palm Beach is the real deal — a focused, deeply stocked Italian and French list with producers serious enough to justify the Best of Award of Excellence on the wall. The pricing is steep, as you'd expect in Palm Beach, but the quality of what's in the cellar earns it.

Renato's is the kind of Italian wine list that reminds you why Italy is the greatest wine country on earth — Biondi-Santi, Gaja, Sassicaia, and Ornellaia in one room is not an accident, it's a program. Bring an expense account or a very good reason to celebrate.

Flagler Steakhouse is exactly what it promises — a serious, well-stocked wine program built for the Palm Beach crowd, with a sommelier who can guide you through it and enough bottle depth to reward the curious. The markups run steep, but the credentials are real and the execution is tight.

Café l'Europe is one of the most serious wine programs in South Florida, full stop — the cellar depth alone justifies the trip, even if the pricing reflects its zip code. Send your friends here if they want to drink well in Palm Beach; just tell them to skip the Caymus.

West Toledo / Reynolds Corner · Toledo · Italian
There's one reason to come here for wine: Thursday. Half-price bottles on a standing weekly basis is a genuinely good deal, especially on the Santa Margherita. Any other night, the markups are steep and the list doesn't justify them.

West Toledo/Monroe Street · Toledo · Italian
Carrabba's Toledo isn't a destination for wine — but it's not an embarrassment either. The Ruffino Chianti Classico alone earns its keep, and if you stick to the Italian side of the list, you'll drink reasonably well without drama.

Marisi is a reliable Italian wine list with genuine ambition hiding behind a steep markup structure — the producers are right, the regions are right, but you'll pay for the privilege. Go for the Produttori Barbaresco and the Pre-Phylloxera Barbera, and you'll leave satisfied.
