Wingman Metrics
Walking into Geppetto, the wine list reads like a love letter to the Italian boot — Veneto, Piemonte, Toscana, Sicily, Lombardia all represented without feeling like someone just copied a generic import catalog. It's a focused, regionally honest list that matches the room: warm, unfussy, and clearly Italian without trying too hard.
The Italian regional focus here is genuine — this isn't a list padded with California Cab to keep the nervous drinkers happy. You're getting producers from the right zip codes: Sicilian reds with some grip, Piedmontese options that reward patience, and the kind of Tuscan selections that make sense next to a proper bistecca. There are no obvious detours into the New World, which is either a feature or a bug depending on your table. The gaps are real — if you're hunting for deep bench depth or esoteric labels, you may find the list shorter than your ambition.
We don't have a confirmed by-the-glass count, which is a mild frustration for a spot at this price point — you'd hope to see at least five or six rotating options that let the table explore across Italy without committing to a full bottle. Whether that program exists in meaningful form here is something you'll want to ask your server about directly.
The Bottom Line
Geppetto is the kind of place where the wine list actually reflects the kitchen's point of view — Italy, seriously, without apology. It's not a destination wine program, but it's a trustworthy one, and in Torrington, that earns real points.
West Hartford Center · Hartford · Upscale American Seafood and Raw Bar
Max's Oyster Bar is exactly the kind of reliable wine program a seafood-focused restaurant should have — thoughtfully built around what's on the plate, staffed by people who can guide you through it. The markup keeps it from being exceptional, but if you stick to the Old World whites, you'll drink very well.

West Hartford · Hartford · American Tavern
Tavern in the Square West Hartford is a perfectly decent place to watch a game and eat a burger, but the wine list is purely functional — familiar brands, steep markups, and zero curation. Stick to draft beer or a cocktail unless a glass of Prosecco is all you need.

Downtown Hartford · Hartford · New American / Seafood
Max's Trumbull Kitchen is a reliable wine stop elevated by a genuinely smart focus on seafood-friendly whites — just don't pay full price when you can come back on Thursday and get the whole list at half off. That changes the math considerably.

Max Burger isn't a wine destination — it's a burger destination that happens to take wine seriously enough to price it fairly and run half-off Thursdays. If you're eating here anyway, you're in better shape than you think.

Blue Back Square / West Hartford · Hartford · Steakhouse, American
Fleming's West Hartford is a reliable, polished steakhouse wine program that does exactly what it sets out to do — pour well-known California wines in a nice glass to people who are already spending $60 on a steak. Just don't expect to discover anything, and watch the markup on the big names.

Amico Nave is a reliable neighborhood Italian with a wine list that's serviceable but won't knock your socks off — great for a date night when the food is the star, less great if you're there for the wine. Order something Italian, keep it simple, and enjoy the room.
