Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Fish at 30 Lake reads exactly like you'd expect from a polished hotel restaurant in a tourist-heavy upstate market — familiar names, safe bets, and nothing that's going to make you think too hard. It's the kind of list that works for the crowd it's built for, even if it leaves curious drinkers a little flat.
The 40-to-70-label list leans heavily on California and New Zealand crowd-pleasers, with some Burgundy and Pacific Northwest representation rounding things out. What you get are the reliable anchors of every mid-tier wine program: Rombauer, Meiomi, Oyster Bay — names that sell themselves and don't require a single conversation with a server. There's no real adventure here, no small producers, no regional New York surprises despite being in one of the state's more interesting wine markets. Gaps are obvious: no domestic sparkling to speak of, no rosé program worth mentioning, and nothing that suggests anyone's actively curating.
Ten to sixteen by-the-glass options is a reasonable count for the format, and the price range of $13–$20 per glass is on the steeper side for what's being poured. Rotation doesn't appear to be a priority — expect the same lineup visit to visit, which at least means consistency if not excitement.
Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc — $13
At the low end of the glass range, Oyster Bay is a clean, reliable Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc that actually makes sense next to a raw bar plate. You know what you're getting, and you're not overpaying for it relative to the rest of the list.
Pacific Northwest Pinot Noir
The Pacific Northwest representation on a seafood-focused list is underutilized by most diners who default to California. A lighter, earthier Pinot from Oregon's Willamette Valley plays surprisingly well with richer fish preparations — worth asking what they're pouring from that region before defaulting to Meiomi.
Rombauer Chardonnay
Rombauer is a perfectly fine wine that every restaurant in America marks up aggressively because the name sells itself. You're paying a premium here for brand recognition, not for quality per dollar. Order it at retail for a fraction of what this list charges.
Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc + Raw bar items
Briny oysters and a citrus-driven, high-acid Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough is one of the most reliable combinations in the book. The wine's grassiness and lime zest cut right through the salinity without overwhelming delicate shellfish flavors.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Fish at 30 Lake is a dependable option in a tourist town — the wine list won't offend anyone, but it won't thrill you either. If you're eating here for the seafood, stick to the lower end of the glass list and call it a night.
Downtown · Saratoga Springs · Tuscan Italian
Forno Bistro isn't a destination wine list, but it's a fair and functional one that respects your wallet — especially on Mondays when half-price bottles make a $30 Chianti feel like a genuine gift. Send your friends here for a fun dinner; just don't send the ones who want to talk about terroir.

If you're in Saratoga and want an honest, unpretentious look at what the Finger Lakes can do, Thirsty Owl earns the stop — especially on the patio in the warmer months. Just go in knowing this is a winery showcase, not a global wine bar, and you'll leave happy.

West Side / Route 29 · Saratoga Springs · Winery with American Fare / Wood-Fired Pizza
The Saratoga Winery is a legitimate Wild Card: a single-producer list of cold-hardy New York grapes served in an Adirondack tasting room with live music and wood-fired pizza. It's not a destination for serious wine exploration, but it's a genuinely fun, low-stakes way to drink something you've never tried before.

Downtown · Saratoga Springs · Upscale New American
15 Church has the bones of a genuinely good wine program — the range is there, the interesting picks exist — but the pricing is aggressive enough that you'll spend more time doing mental math than enjoying your glass. Stick to the Old World bottles and avoid anything with a recognizable California label.

Come for the races, stay for the atmosphere, but don't come here for the wine. If you need something in a glass to toast a winner, grab the Champagne and leave it at that.

Come to Nine Maple Avenue for the live jazz, the whiskey program, and the atmosphere — the wine list is a placeholder, not a reason to visit. If you're committed to ordering wine, grab the Château D'Esclans Rosé and enjoy the music.
