Twelve bottles, twelve by-the-glass options — that's a one-to-one ratio, which tells you right away that this place is built around approachability. The list is compact, curated, and clearly not trying to overwhelm anyone. That's a design choice, and it mostly works.
The list hits the major categories without pretending to be a deep cellar — sparkling, rosé, white, and red, each represented by two or three solid picks. There's genuine range here: a Ribera del Duero rosé from Protos sitting next to a Santiago Ruiz Albariño, and a Bodegas Piqueras anchoring the red end with some actual Iberian backbone. The Columbia Valley Red Blend from Readers Red and a Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel round out the domestic side without feeling like filler. The gaps are obvious — no Burgundy, no Champagne, no real Italian reds — but for a neighborhood wine bar, this is a thoughtful edit.
Every bottle on the list is available by the glass, which is the entire point of this place. Glass prices run $12.80 to $15.80, which is genuinely fair for a sit-down wine bar in the Chicago suburbs. The range of styles — from a Plus & Plus Rosado Cava to a Silver Peak Pinot Noir — means you can actually build a tasting flight worth doing.
Bodegas Santiago Ruiz Albariño — $50.20
Santiago Ruiz is a benchmark Rías Baixas producer, and landing it at $50 a bottle — or roughly $13–14 a glass — is a genuine win. This is the kind of bottle that retails for $20–25 and usually gets marked up far harder at wine bars.
Lodi Ave Cellars Old Vine Zinfandel
Old vine Zinfandel from Lodi gets overlooked because the region has an image problem, but the right producer here means fruit-forward intensity and serious age in the vines. Most people scroll past it to the Pinot Noir — that's their loss.
Bodegas Piqueras
At $56.20 it's the highest-priced bottle on the list, and without more detail on the specific bottling or vintage, it's hard to justify the premium when the Albariño and Protos rosé are both excellent and easier calls.
Protos Ribera del Duero Aire de Rosé + Charcuterie board
A Ribera del Duero rosé has the structure and grip to stand up to cured meats and aged cheeses — it's not a delicate Provence sipper. If the kitchen is putting out any kind of charcuterie or cheese plate, this is the pour.
The Bottom Line
Evanston Pour isn't trying to be a destination wine list — it's trying to be the reliable neighborhood spot that doesn't rip you off, and it succeeds at that. Fair prices, drinkable range, zero pretense.
