Cold beer vibes, but the wine shows up

Wingman Metrics
The wine list here is exactly what you'd expect walking into a ranch-style steakhouse on McPherson Road — approachable, unpretentious, and built for people who want a glass with their ribeye, not a seminar. Bottles top out around $50, which tells you everything about the ambition level. But at least nobody's getting robbed.
The list runs 15-30 bottles deep with a heavy lean on California and Washington State — think grocery store shelf staples like Apothic, Woodbridge, 14 Hands, and Mirassou. There's no Old World representation to speak of, no Tempranillo to anchor the arrachera, and nothing remotely adventurous. What you get is a tight, familiar lineup that most diners will recognize from their local supermarket. It's not trying to impress anyone, and it mostly doesn't.
Six to ten options by the glass in the $8–$14 range, which is genuinely reasonable for a Laredo steakhouse in 2024. The pours are predictable — you're getting the same Apothic Red and Woodbridge Cab that anchor the bottle list. Rotation appears minimal; this program is set-it-and-forget-it.
14 Hands Cabernet Sauvignon — $28
At the lower end of the bottle range, 14 Hands is a dependable Washington State Cab that holds its own against a slab of grilled beef. Decent fruit, enough structure — and at this price, you're not overthinking it.
Mirassou Merlot
Everyone bypasses Merlot on a steakhouse list, and that's exactly why this one works in your favor. Soft, approachable, and a natural match for the Parrillada — and most of your tablemates will be ordering Cab, so the bottle might actually be available when you want it.
Apothic Red Blend
You can grab this at H-E-B for under $10. Even with fair restaurant markup, you're paying a premium for a wine engineered for mass appeal. Save the spend for something with more going on.
14 Hands Cabernet Sauvignon + Arrachera (Skirt Steak)
The bright dark fruit and soft tannins in 14 Hands cut through the char on a skirt steak without fighting the grilled meat flavors. It's an easy call that actually works, which is more than you can say for some of the fancier pairings at twice the price.
✔️ The Bottom Line
El Rancho isn't a wine destination — it's a meat destination that happens to have wine on the table. The list is basic, the prices are fair, and if you stick to the 14 Hands or Mirassou, you'll drink fine. Just don't show up hoping to discover anything.

Tony Roma's Laredo is here to serve ribs, and the wine list knows its place in the pecking order. Nothing wrong with it, nothing exciting about it — if wine matters to you tonight, manage expectations accordingly.

Maria Bonita is a genuinely fun spot to eat, but the wine program is a non-event — grab a margarita or a cold beer and save the wine conversation for somewhere else. Come for the fajitas, not the Frontera.

Outback Laredo's wine program is a national chain doing national chain things — predictable, overpriced relative to quality, and staffed by people who aren't expected to know anything about what they're pouring. Come for the Bloomin' Onion, stick to a cocktail, and save the wine order for somewhere that cares.

The wine program here is a placeholder, not a feature — a chain-mandated afterthought designed to upsell, not impress. Drink the Chianti Classico if you must order a bottle, but nobody's coming to Olive Garden Laredo for the wine list.

Logan's Roadhouse is not a wine destination — it's a steakhouse chain where wine clearly wasn't part of the concept. Order a beer, order a cocktail, and save the bottle for a restaurant that's actually trying.

Texas Roadhouse Laredo is a great spot for a $17 steak and a bucket of rolls — the wine list is an afterthought and everyone involved knows it. Order a margarita, or grab the Ste. Michelle Riesling and call it a night.
