Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Copper Grill reads like a greatest hits album you've heard a hundred times — Caymus, Rombauer, Meiomi, Kim Crawford. It's not trying to surprise you, and honestly, it doesn't need to. This is a neighborhood steakhouse that knows its crowd and plays directly to them.
The list sits somewhere in the 20-50 bottle range, leaning hard on California and New Zealand with zero ambiguity about who it's serving. Napa Cab and Central Coast Pinot dominate the red side, while the whites are thin — basically a Chardonnay and a Sauvignon Blanc lane, full stop. There's no old-world representation to speak of, no orange wine flirtation, no domestic outliers. If you're hoping for a Rhône or even a domestic Syrah to go with your ribeye, you're in the wrong place.
The by-the-glass program runs 6-12 options and likely mirrors the bottle list — familiar names poured at restaurant-standard prices. Don't expect much rotation here; what's on the list tonight is probably what was on the list last month. It gets the job done for a glass of something recognizable, but there's no excitement in the pour.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc — $12
It's the most honestly priced wine on the list — widely available, reliably crisp, and a genuine match for lighter dishes or a first-glass aperitif before your steak arrives. No pretense, no surprises, no regrets.
Meiomi Pinot Noir
Most people in a steakhouse walk past Pinot straight to the Cabernet, but Meiomi's fruit-forward, slightly smoky profile actually holds its own against lighter cuts and grilled chicken. It's not a complex wine, but it punches above its reputation in this setting.
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon
Caymus is a fine wine, but it's one of the most marked-up bottles in American restaurant culture. You're paying for the name recognition as much as what's in the glass, and at steakhouse prices, that premium stings. Save it for a bottle shop where the markup is honest.
Rombauer Chardonnay + Grilled Chicken Specials
Rombauer's buttery, vanilla-laced Chardonnay is almost too obvious with grilled chicken — but obvious works here. The oak and richness match the char without overwhelming it, and it's crowd-pleasing enough that everyone at the table can enjoy a glass.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Copper Grill is a reliable neighborhood spot that won't challenge you on wine — and that's fine, because it's not trying to. Send a friend here for a solid steak and a glass of something familiar, but remind them to skip the Caymus markup.

III Palms is doing what a lot of upscale Texas steakhouses do with wine — safe, familiar, and marked up — but the food quality and atmosphere give it enough credibility to recommend for a proper night out. Just catch Happy Hour, order the Elk Cove, and leave the Rombauer for the table next to you.

The Grove isn't a wine destination, but it's doing more with its list than most restaurants in East Texas dare to try — and Wine Wednesdays from 7 to 9 PM genuinely move the needle. Show up on a Wednesday, avoid the grocery-store bottles, and you'll leave happy.

Jack Ryan's is a reliable steakhouse wine list in a pretty room — it'll get the job done, especially if you steer toward Jordan or Stag's Leap and avoid the Caymus trap. Don't come here expecting to discover anything, but you won't leave disappointed if you order smart.

Rick's on the Square isn't a wine destination, but it's a reliable steakhouse list with fair pricing and enough range to keep everyone at the table happy — and that Grüner Veltliner hiding in plain sight is reason enough to look past the Kendall-Jackson crowd. If you're eating steak in Tyler, you could do a lot worse.

BJ's is a perfectly fine brewhouse with decent food and great beer — the wine program just has no business being the reason you show up. Order a craft pour, enjoy your Pizookie, and come back to wine somewhere that tried.
