The view from Cielo does a lot of heavy lifting. You're up on a rooftop at Santana Row, the evening is warm, and the wine list arrives looking respectable enough — familiar names, Napa heavy, nothing that's going to surprise you but nothing embarrassing either. It's the wine equivalent of a reliable playlist: you've heard it all before, but the setting makes it feel better than it is.
The list runs about 30 labels and leans hard into California comfort zones — Rombauer, Oberon, Silver Oak, Duckhorn — the usual suspects that play well to a crowd that wants something they already know they like. There's a token international showing with Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc and Ruffino Pinot Grigio, and Campo Viejo handles the sparkling European slot adequately. What's missing is any real depth: no Rhône varieties, no interesting Italian reds, no skin-contact whites, nothing that would make a curious drinker lean forward. This list was built for safety, and it achieves exactly that.
Here's the unusual move: the entire list is by the glass. All 30 wines, poured to order, ranging from $9.50 to $24. That's genuinely rare and worth appreciating — you can try multiple wines without committing to a bottle, which suits the rooftop social format perfectly. The range across the price bands is decent, though the ceiling (Silver Oak and Chimney Rock at $24/glass) feels steep when you do the math against retail.
Twomey Pinot Noir, Russian River — $19/glass
Twomey is a Silver Oak sibling that punches well above what most rooftop bars bother to stock. At $19 a glass you're getting a legitimately serious Russian River Pinot that would disappear fast at a proper wine bar — it's the most interesting red on the list by a significant margin.
Emmolo Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley
Everyone reaches for the Cloudy Bay because the name registers. But Emmolo — a Duckhorn portfolio label — is the quieter overachiever here at $13/glass. Napa Sauvignon Blanc has a rounder, richer texture than its New Zealand counterpart, and most people walk right past it.
Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley
Silver Oak retails around $75-80 a bottle, which puts a fair glass pour somewhere in the $18-20 range. At $24/glass you're paying a meaningful premium for the brand recognition — and if you're going to spend $24, the Chimney Rock or Twomey are more interesting choices.
Daou Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles + Charcuterie Board
Daou is ripe and approachable with enough structure to cut through cured meats and aged cheeses. At $15/glass it's the smartest Cab on the list for casual rooftop snacking — you're not overthinking it, and neither is the wine.
The Bottom Line
Cielo is a perfectly fine place to drink wine when the real attraction is the open sky and the Santana Row scene below you. The list won't challenge anyone, the markups are real, but the all-by-the-glass format and a few smart picks like the Twomey keep it from being a total afterthought.

Vintage Wine Bar is a narrow, laser-focused list that will delight Champagne lovers and mildly frustrate anyone hoping for a glass of Pinot Gris. If sparkling wine is your thing, there are genuinely excellent bottles here at prices that don't insult you — send a friend who knows what Bereche et Fils is, and they'll be happy.
