Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Cattlemens reads exactly like the restaurant looks — Western, unpretentious, and built for people who know what they want before they sit down. You're not getting an adventure here, but you're also not getting embarrassed. It's a California-centric list that does its job without trying too hard.
Thirty-four labels, all California, all crowd-approved — Rombauer, Rodney Strong, Hartford Court, St. Francis. There's a nod to the local terroir with Wente Riva Ranch Chardonnay from Livermore Valley, which is a nice touch given the address. Gaps are real though: no Old World presence, no rosé worth mentioning, nothing that'll make a wine-curious diner lean forward. What you get is a steakhouse greatest hits compilation — reliable, familiar, and built to sell ribeyes.
Twenty-four by-the-glass options on a 34-bottle list is a surprisingly high ratio, and we respect the accessibility. Pours run $10–$16, which tracks fine for the East Bay. The Rombauer Chardonnay at $16/glass is the splurge anchor, and Gloria Ferrer Brut gives you a decent bubble option before your prime rib lands.
Rodney Strong Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley — $48/btl
Rodney Strong's Russian River Pinot punches above its weight class in a steakhouse setting — it's food-friendly, accessible, and at $48 it's the list's most honest bottle. Order it with confidence.
Wente Riva Ranch Chardonnay, Livermore Valley
Most tables here will reach for the Rombauer without a second thought, but the Wente Riva Ranch is grown right down the road in Livermore Valley and deserves the attention. It's a genuine sense-of-place pour that almost nobody orders.
Buena Vista Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
At $80 a bottle, Buena Vista Cab is working harder than it should to justify that price tag. You can find this bottle at retail for a fraction of that, and with the Rombauer Cab sitting at $92, the value gap here isn't making anyone look good.
St. Francis Old Vines Zinfandel, Sonoma County + Ribeye Steak
Old Vines Zin has the fruit weight and peppery backbone to go toe-to-toe with a ribeye's fat and char. It's a California-on-California matchup that makes sense from every angle.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Cattlemens Livermore is exactly what it advertises — a solid steakhouse wine list that won't wow you but won't let you down either. Grab the Rodney Strong, order the ribeye, and leave the bottle hunting for somewhere else.

Strizzi's isn't a wine destination, but it does right by its neighborhood with local Livermore pours at fair prices. Send your friend here if they want a solid Italian dinner with a decent glass — just point them toward the Cab Franc.

Downtown Livermore · Livermore · Mexican
Blue Agave Club is first and foremost a tequila destination, but the wine list earns its place by betting on local Livermore producers and sneaking in a wild card or two. If you're eating here and skipping the wine entirely, you're missing a cheap way to drink well in wine country.

If you are already staying here and do not feel like driving, the Caposaldo Prosecco or Mirabelle will get the job done without too much damage. But this is Livermore — there are actual wine destinations within ten minutes that make this lobby bar look like it is not even trying.

Swirl on the Square isn't trying to be a destination wine bar and it doesn't need to be — it's the right place to drink local, eat small plates, and let a Tuesday night turn into something. Just order by the glass and skip the bottle markup.

Texas Roadhouse is not a wine destination and makes no pretense of being one — the food is the draw and the wine list is an afterthought wearing a flannel shirt. Order a beer, a margarita, or just lean into the Woodbridge Cab and enjoy your steak.

Texas Roadhouse is a fine place to eat a steak and watch a table of twelve celebrate a birthday — it is not a place to drink wine. Order a beer, enjoy the rolls, and save your wine budget for literally anywhere else in the Rogue Valley.

Outback's wine list in Davenport is a chain doing the bare minimum — recognizable labels, steep markups, zero ambition. Come for the steak, order the Koonunga Hill if you must have wine, and save your serious wine spending for somewhere that earned it.
