Wingman Metrics
Thirteen bottles, thirteen by-the-glass options — that's a one-to-one ratio, which tells you everything: this list exists to check a box, not to excite anyone. You're in Laredo, deep in margarita territory, and the wine program knows it's not the main event here.
The list reads like a Greatest Hits of corporate restaurant wine buying: Clos du Bois Cab, Decoy Pinot, Joel Gott 815, Sonoma-Cutrer. These are reliable, inoffensive, widely distributed labels — nothing wrong with them, but nothing surprising either. There's a single Malbec (Catena Vista Flores), one Sauvignon Blanc (The Crossings), and a Pinot Grigio from Ruffino, which rounds out the whites with minimal effort. Old World representation is essentially nonexistent outside a Spanish rosé and a Prosecco. If you came hoping to find something from Rioja, Burgundy, or anywhere in the southern hemisphere beyond Mendoza, you'll be disappointed.
Every bottle on the list is available by the glass, which is generous in concept but reveals the program's true purpose: pour-and-go convenience, not exploration. Glass prices run $8–$13.50, and the Lunetta Prosecco at $10 a pop is the kind of low-stakes opener that's hard to argue with. Rotation appears nonexistent — this list has the feel of something updated annually, not seasonally.
Marqués de Cáceres Rosé — $28
At $28 a bottle, this Spanish rosé from Rioja is the most interesting thing on the list at the lowest bottle price. It's food-friendly, has some actual character, and beats paying $28 for Trinity Oaks Chardonnay by a country mile.
Catena Vista Flores Malbec
Most tables at a Mexican restaurant are grabbing a Cab or Pinot on autopilot. The Catena Vista Flores Malbec at $37 is the sleeper — it's a legitimate producer making serious wine from high-altitude Mendoza fruit, and it'll hold up to anything with chile heat on the menu.
Joel Gott 815 Cabernet Sauvignon
At $51, you're paying a significant restaurant premium for a $20 retail bottle that's available at every grocery store, gas station, and big-box retailer in America. It's fine wine, but this is not a fine value.
Catena Vista Flores Malbec + Carne Asada
Malbec and grilled beef is a classic Argentine combination for a reason — the wine's dark fruit and soft tannins absorb the char and the heat from any salsa without fighting the food.
The Bottom Line
The wine list at Cantina Laredo Laredo is functional, priced fairly for a casual chain, and completely devoid of ambition — but honestly, you're probably here for the guacamole and a frozen margarita anyway. If you do order wine, grab the Marqués de Cáceres Rosé and call it a night.
· Laredo · Steakhouse
El Asador is clearly a destination for the food — the wood-fired steaks, the Tuétano al Piquín, the oysters — and the margaritas are probably doing heavy lifting at the bar. But the wine list is a placeholder, not a program. Five unlabeled, undated-for-rotation bottles at a polished steakhouse in 2024 is a miss. Come for the beef, order a cocktail, and hope someone eventually hands this list to someone who cares.

La Posada Hotel · Laredo · Steakhouse
The Tack Room isn't trying to be a wine destination, and it succeeds at being exactly what it is — a dependable hotel steakhouse list with some solid bottles hiding among the Cab parade. Order the Spanish or Argentine options, avoid the trophy-bottle markups, and you'll eat and drink just fine.

Taberna Laredo is the kind of place that wine-obsessed travelers bookmark and casual diners stumble into and never forget. If you're in Madrid and serious about drinking well at dinner, this belongs on your shortlist.

Johnny Carino's Laredo isn't trying to be a wine destination, and the list makes that abundantly clear. If you're here, go on a Sunday or Wednesday, grab that half-price Albertoni, and keep your expectations parked firmly at 'Italian chain in Laredo.'

Mall del Norte Area · Laredo · American steakhouse / ribs
Tony Roma's Laredo is here to serve ribs, and the wine list knows its place in the pecking order. Nothing wrong with it, nothing exciting about it — if wine matters to you tonight, manage expectations accordingly.

South Laredo · Laredo · Steakhouse / Mexican Grilled Meats
El Rancho isn't a wine destination — it's a meat destination that happens to have wine on the table. The list is basic, the prices are fair, and if you stick to the 14 Hands or Mirassou, you'll drink fine. Just don't show up hoping to discover anything.

Park Place · Irvine · Modern Mexican
Puesto is a fun spot, but the wine list is essentially decorative — five Baja bottles isn't a program, it's a placeholder. Order a mezcal cocktail and revisit this decision when they decide to take wine seriously.

· Winston Salem · Modern Mexican
Alma Mexicana is a genuine wild card — a modern Mexican restaurant in Winston-Salem with a wine program that's quietly pointing at Old World Europe instead of the expected California house pour. We need the full list to give you the real numbers, but the instinct here is good enough to warrant ordering something other than a margarita.

Quiubo's wine list is short, safe, and priced reasonably enough that it won't ruin your night — but it won't add anything to it either. Stick to the Juan Gil or the Cava, enjoy your tacos, and don't come here expecting the wine to be part of the experience.
