Wingman Metrics
You come in for pizza and a pastry, and then the wine list stops you cold. Nineteen labels at a St. Paul bakery-cafe isn't a lot, but the names on here — Ridge, Scribe, AIX, Philippe Girard — don't belong on the same page as a slice of pepperoni in the best possible way. Someone in this building actually cares.
The list punches well above its size, covering Italian whites, Loire Sauvignon Blanc, Austrian Grüner, and a Sancerre for people who mean business. The red side brings in Scribe Pinot Noir from Sonoma, a Ridge Zinfandel from Lytton Springs territory, and a Sicilian Nero d'Avola from Colosi that earns its spot. There's a Malbec, a Petite Sirah, and even a Quinta de Noval Port to close things out. The gaps are real — no Rhône, no Burgundy, no Italian reds beyond Sicily — but for a cafe this small, the intentionality is hard to argue with.
Eighteen of nineteen bottles are available by the glass, which is practically the whole list — a bold, customer-friendly call. Prices run from $7 for Just Enough Rosé Bubbles to $15 at the top end, with most options sitting in the $9–$12 range. The sheer accessibility here is the story: you can try the Scribe Pinot or the AIX Rosé without committing to a bottle on a Tuesday lunch.
Domaine Rudel Pinot Noir — $34
A Burgundy-region Pinot Noir at $34 a bottle is hard to find anywhere, let alone at a bakery cafe. It's the quiet overachiever on a list full of flashier names.
Colosi Nero d'Avola
Most people walk right past Sicilian reds on a wine list, especially when Ridge and Scribe are sitting right there. That's a mistake. Nero d'Avola is dark, spicy, and built for tomato-forward pizza in a way that Cab never quite is.
Rombauer Chardonnay
At $45 it's the most expensive bottle on the list, and Rombauer is the most over-ordered, over-oaked Chardonnay in America. You're paying for the name. The Midsommar Grüner at $28 is a better call in every direction.
Ridge Vineyards Zinfandel + Pizza
Ridge Zin's brambly fruit and spice backbone is practically designed for a char-edged pizza crust with red sauce. The acidity cuts the fat, the fruit matches the sweetness in the tomatoes, and suddenly you're having a really good night at a bakery.
The Bottom Line
Cafe Latte is the Wild Card because nobody expects a café in St. Paul to stock Ridge and Scribe alongside a Sancerre and a Quinta de Noval Port at these prices. Go for the pizza, stay because the wine list is quietly doing something right.
