Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Busboys and Poets Shirlington fits the room — unpretentious, accessible, and built for people who want a glass with their book or their activist meetup, not a deep dive into Burgundy appellations. It's short, familiar, and priced so you won't wince when you order a second round. Don't come here expecting discovery; come here expecting a comfortable, well-priced drink.
The list runs about 20-35 bottles and leans on reliable international crowd-pleasers: Italian whites, Argentine reds, a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, and a Washington Chardonnay. Producers like Tilia, Zuccardi, and Yalumba are solid, recognizable labels that don't embarrass themselves — they just don't surprise anyone either. There's a reasonable geographic spread across Italy, Argentina, California, and New Zealand, though serious Old World depth (think Rhône, Burgundy, Rioja) is absent. For the price point and the vibe, the list does exactly what it needs to do.
With 10-16 pours by the glass, Busboys actually overdelivers here relative to its overall list size — most of what's on the bottle list is accessible by the glass, which matters in a casual café environment where people aren't ordering full bottles with their Vegan Nachos. The selection covers white, red, rosé, and bubbles with the Zardetto Prosecco checking the sparkling box. Rotation appears minimal, so don't expect seasonal surprises.
Zuccardi Cabernet Sauvignon, Valle de Uco, Argentina — $
Valle de Uco Cab at casual restaurant prices is a genuine win — this high-altitude Argentine appellation produces structured, serious red wine, and Zuccardi is one of its most respected names. You're getting real wine pedigree at house-pour pricing.
Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc/Viognier Blend, California
Most people scroll past this and grab the Sauvignon Blanc on autopilot, which is a mistake. Pine Ridge's Chenin Blanc/Viognier is an underrated California white with floral aromatics and texture that most guests at this price point have never tried — it's genuinely interesting on a list that isn't trying very hard to be.
Tiamo Pinot Grigio, Veneto, Italy
Tiamo is a perfectly fine organic Pinot Grigio, but Pinot Grigio from Veneto is the least exciting pour on this list. With a Chenin Blanc blend and a Riesling available, ordering this is just defaulting to the safest, most forgettable option.
Tilia Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina + Cajun Pasta
Tilia Malbec is soft, fruit-forward, and low on harsh tannins — it rides alongside the smoky, spiced heat of the Cajun Pasta without fighting it. The wine's plum and dark fruit notes play off the richness of the dish without overwhelming the table.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Busboys and Poets Shirlington is exactly what it is: a community-first space where wine is a supporting character, not the headline. The list is fair, the by-the-glass selection is generous for the price, and a few genuinely interesting bottles (looking at you, Zuccardi and Pine Ridge) keep it from being a total snooze — send a friend here if they want good value and good vibes, not a wine education.

Carlyle won't change your relationship with wine, but it won't ruin it either — and on Tuesday, when everything on the bottle list is half off, it briefly becomes one of the better deals in Shirlington. Come for the prime rib, order the Jordan, and call it a good night.

Maya Bistro isn't a wine destination, but Monday half-price bottles and legitimately interesting Turkish pours make it a Wild Card worth knowing about. Come for the pide, stay for the Angora — just don't touch the Oyster Bay.

Salt Line Ballston isn't trying to be a wine destination, but the list is smarter and more purposeful than most seafood spots in this price range. Send a friend here for oysters and Muscadet and they'll thank you.

National Landing / Pentagon City · Arlington · Southern & Korean-influenced American
Succotash Prime's wine list is exactly what you'd expect from a polished upscale Southern spot in a hotel-adjacent dining corridor — safe, recognizable, and priced for expense accounts. We'd send a friend here for a reliable night out, not a wine destination.

National Landing / Crystal City · Arlington · Modern Italian
Corso is a dependable Italian wine list in a neighborhood that could easily get away with doing much less — it doesn't dazzle, but it doesn't disappoint either. If the Wednesday half-price bottle rumor holds up when you call ahead, it might just tip into genuinely great value territory.

Liberty To-Go is a genuine wild card — a tavern wine shop hybrid with a fortified wine section that would embarrass most dedicated wine bars, all priced without the usual Arlington markup. Come for the Barolo, stay for the Sherry flight you didn't know you needed.
