The wine list at Bouchon lands exactly how you'd expect from a Thomas Keller property — serious, French-leaning, and not cheap. It signals confidence immediately, which is either reassuring or slightly intimidating depending on how you feel about asking a sommelier a question.
France is the clear anchor here, with Alsace showing up stronger than most restaurants have any business attempting — Trimbach and Domaine Weinbach both making appearances is a genuine flex. Louis Jadot handles the Burgundy corner, and Kermit Lynch imports scatter across the list like reliable dispatches from someone who actually lives in Lyon. California doesn't get neglected either; local Napa Cabs show up dutifully, though they feel more like obligation than passion compared to the French depth.
With 15 to 25 pours on offer, the by-the-glass program is one of the more generous in Yountville — though you'll feel prices ranging up to $50 a glass pretty quickly if you reach for anything interesting. The range tracks the bottle list well, meaning you can find Alsatian whites by the glass, which is rarer than it should be in wine country.
Trimbach Pinot Gris (Alsace) — $15–$20/glass (est.)
Trimbach Pinot Gris is a textbook bistro wine — rich, savory, and built for food — and it's one of the few places on this list where the markup doesn't feel punishing relative to what you're getting. It's also a great test of whether your table knows what they're doing.
Domaine Weinbach Riesling (Alsace)
Most Napa diners are scanning for Chardonnay or Cab and will walk right past this. Weinbach is a genuinely serious Alsatian producer making Riesling with real depth and age-worthiness — ordering it here feels like a quiet win against the crowd.
Local Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
You're in Napa, so yes, you can order the Cab. But Bouchon marks up the local stuff at Napa Valley tourist pricing, and the French selections are almost always the better story at this restaurant. Save the big Cab splurge for a place that's actually built around it.
Louis Jadot Burgundy (Pinot Noir) + Steak Frites
A classic Jadot Burgundy has the earthy backbone and bright acidity to cut through the butter-basted steak without competing with it — this is the exact pairing French bistros were invented for, and Bouchon executes it with enough kitchen precision that you'd be silly to order anything else.
The Bottom Line
Bouchon is a genuinely well-run wine program inside a genuinely well-run restaurant, but Yountville pricing means you're paying a premium for the zip code as much as the list. Go for the Alsatian bottles, lean on the sommelier, and make peace with the check.
