Great Pizza, Forgotten Wine List

The wine list at Blackbird Woodfire is clearly an afterthought — and not even a guilty one. Five options, all priced at $7 a glass, covering the greatest hits of grocery store wine culture. The woodfire oven is the star here, and the list does nothing to compete.
Five wines. That's it. A Red Blend, a Cabernet, a Chardonnay, a Pinot Grigio, and a Dry Rosé — no producers named, no regions disclosed, no story to tell. It reads less like a curated wine program and more like someone checked a box that said 'offer wine.' There's no Old World representation, no sparkling option, and zero indication that anyone put more than fifteen minutes into building this list. For a woodfire-forward, artisan pizza concept, this is a missed opportunity — Italy alone offers a dozen obvious choices that would make these pies sing.
All five options are available by the glass at a flat $7, which is about the only thing worth applauding here. At that price point you're not expecting Barolo, but a producer name or a region would go a long way toward building any trust. Rotation appears nonexistent — this list looks like it hasn't changed since opening day.
Dry Rosé — $7
At $7 a glass, the Dry Rosé is your safest bet with a woodfire pizza — it's versatile, low-risk, and at least won't fight the char and tomato the way the Cab will.
Pinot Grigio
Nobody's ordering this with a margherita pizza in Fargo, but they should — it's the most food-friendly pour on the list and the least likely to overpower a lighter woodfired pie.
Cabernet
An anonymous Cab at $7 with no producer info is the lowest-stakes wine on earth, but it's still the wrong call next to woodfired pizza. Too tannic, too heavy, and almost certainly pouring from a bulk jug.
Dry Rosé + Artisan Woodfired Pizza
Rosé has the acidity to cut through cheese and the fruit to complement charred crust without bulldozing the toppings — it's the one pairing on this list that actually makes sense.
❌ The Bottom Line
Blackbird Woodfire earns serious points for its food concept and casual neighborhood charm, but the wine list is essentially decorative. Come for the pizza, order a craft beer, and save your wine curiosity for somewhere that returns the favor.
South Fargo · Fargo · Italian-American Chain
Come for the breadsticks, stay for the pasta, but don't come for the wine. Olive Garden Fargo's list is exactly what you'd expect from a national chain that treats wine as a revenue line, not a program — and in Fargo, you deserve better options.

LongHorn West Fargo isn't a wine destination, and it's not trying to be — but the pricing is fair, the by-the-glass range is workable, and you won't be stuck drinking bad wine with a good steak. Send a friend here for the ribeye; just remind them to skip the KJ and order the Cab.

Come for the margaritas, the table-side guac, and the fajitas — the wine list is not the reason to be here. If your group insists on wine, Austin Hope is the one pick worth your time; everything else is just filler.

Mangata is the kind of place that shouldn't work on paper but absolutely does in practice — a sommelier-curated wine list inside a food hall, next to a raw bar, in Fargo. Send your friends here, and tell them to ask about the Tondonia.

Rosewild is the kind of wine program that shouldn't exist in a hotel restaurant in Fargo — and yet here we are. Wednesday night, half-price bottles, a thoughtful list, and a kitchen that actually gives the wine something to work with. Get there.

Würst Bier Hall is a genuinely fun place to eat and drink in Fargo — just don't make wine the reason you go. Stick to the beer program, which is clearly where the care and attention lives, and treat the wine list as emergency rations.
