Walking into a wine list with 27 of 30 bottles available by the glass is either a genius move or a flex — in Bird & The Bottle's case, it's both. The list is compact but it's doing real work: Sonoma-forward with enough curveballs (Txakolina, Grüner Veltliner, Chenin Blanc) to signal that someone here actually cares. Prices land between $10 and $18 a glass, which for Healdsburg — ground zero for wine country markup — is quietly remarkable.
The reds lean hard into Sonoma terroir: three distinct Pinot Noirs from Melville, Emeritus, and Kanzler give you a real regional compare-and-contrast at the table, while Ridge 'East Bench' and Limerick Lane cover Zinfandel from two different angles. The whites punch above their weight class — Foxen's Chenin Blanc from the Ernesto Wickenden Vineyard is a serious pick, and Diatom's single-vineyard Chardonnay is about as far from butter-bomb as California Chardonnay gets. The lone European interloper, Domäne Wachau Grüner Veltliner, is a smart palate cleanser amid all the West Coast weight. At 30 labels total, there are gaps — no Italian, no Pinot Gris, thin on Rhône — but what's here is chosen with intention.
Twenty-seven by-the-glass options on a 30-bottle list is practically unheard of, and it transforms this from a dinner spot into a proper tasting experience. Glass prices run $10–$18, which means you can work through the Pinot Noir lineup or bounce between the Txakolina and the Flowers Rosé without the bill becoming a crisis. The Roederer Estate Brut at $12 a glass is a no-brainer opener at any table.

The Montepulciano and the Albarino are the most interesting things on a short, cautious list that plays it extremely safe for a town surrounded by world-class vineyards. Order a bottle, enjoy your dinner, and save the serious wine exploration for a tasting room down the street.

Nick's Cove earns a Wild Card badge because it's doing something specific and doing it with conviction: a seafood restaurant on the Sonoma Coast that built its list around sparkling wine and Chardonnay is a confident, logical bet. The markups get steep as you climb the ladder — Cristal at $750 and Dom Pérignon at $650 are priced for occasion, not for value — but there are real finds at the $80-$155 range if you know where to look. Come for the Failla, stay for the Radio-Coteau.

The Girl & the Fig is doing something genuinely interesting: a compact, Rhône-forward list in the heart of Sonoma that resists the easy path of loading up on local Cabs and calling it a day. The by-the-glass program is the real star — broad, fairly priced, and full of producers worth knowing. If you're eating in Healdsburg and want to drink something with a point of view, this list earns your attention.

Rocker Oysterfellers punches well above its weight class for a coastal seafood spot — the Champagne selection alone beats most dedicated wine bars in the area, and the white wine program is genuinely thoughtful with picks from Radio-Coteau, Dehlinger, and Marimar Torres alongside the obligatory crowd pleasers. If you're eating oysters in Healdsburg, this is where you want to be drinking.
