Bernard's opens its wine list like a greatest-hits album — recognizable names, comfortable choices, and nothing that's going to surprise anyone. Seventy labels sounds like a lot until you realize California Chardonnay and Napa Cab are doing the heavy lifting across most of the pages. For Tyler, Texas, this is genuinely one of the more ambitious lists in town, and the pricing doesn't feel punishing.
The list is almost entirely California-focused, with Napa Valley and Sonoma Coast anchoring the whites and reds. Chardonnay gets the most attention — La Crema, Mer Soleil Silver, Silverado, Cakebread, Chalk Hill, and Pahl Meyer Jayson all show up, spanning $37 to $80, which gives you real range within a single varietal. The red side leans hard into Cabernet Sauvignon: Hall, Justin, Fog Dog, Simi, Mount Veeder, and Burgess Estate are all accounted for, covering Napa, Paso Robles, and Alexander Valley. What's missing is almost everything else — no Pinot Noir worth mentioning, no Italian beyond Santa Margherita, no Spanish or Southern French bottles to complement the Mediterranean food identity. The Chateau Montelena Sauvignon Blanc and Prisoner Wine Blindfold are welcome curveballs, but this list needed more of that energy.
Ten pours by the glass is a decent spread, and the price band of $7.50–$9.50 is refreshingly honest for a fine dining room. You won't find anything groundbreaking in the glass program, but you're also not getting gouged for the privilege of a single pour.
La Crema Sonoma Coast Chardonnay — $37
La Crema Sonoma Coast regularly retails around $20–22, so $37 at a restaurant is a modest, fair markup. You get a polished, crowd-pleasing Chardonnay without getting taken to the cleaners. In a list where some bottles push $65+, this is the smart order if you want Chardonnay without commitment.
Chateau Montelena Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley
Montelena is famous for the 1976 Paris tasting Chardonnay, so most people at this table are going to walk right past their Sauvignon Blanc without a second look. That's a mistake. This is a serious, structured white from one of Napa's most respected estates — at $55, it's the most interesting white on the list and the one that actually makes sense next to Mediterranean flavors.
Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio Valdadige
Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio is one of the most over-ordered, over-marked-up bottles in American restaurants. At $42, you're paying mostly for the brand recognition — this is a $15–18 retail bottle and a safe, unremarkable pour. There are better whites on this list for less money.
Chateau Montelena Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley + Grilled Salmon
A structured, mineral-driven Sauvignon Blanc from Napa cuts through the richness of grilled fish while matching the herby, citrusy notes you'd expect from Mediterranean preparation. It's the most food-forward white on the list and does the job a Chardonnay often overcrowds.
The Bottom Line
Bernard's is a dependable wine list for a city that doesn't always prioritize wine — fair prices, recognizable producers, and enough range to find something worth drinking. Just don't come here expecting Old World depth or anything that'll make you think twice.

III Palms is doing what a lot of upscale Texas steakhouses do with wine — safe, familiar, and marked up — but the food quality and atmosphere give it enough credibility to recommend for a proper night out. Just catch Happy Hour, order the Elk Cove, and leave the Rombauer for the table next to you.

If you're eating steak in Tyler, you could do a lot worse.
