Fourteen bottles. That's it. At first glance it looks like someone forgot to finish the list, but give it thirty seconds and you realize every single slot was earned. This isn't a list built by a distributor rep — it's curated with actual opinions.
Bell's leans hard into Santa Barbara County terroir, with exclusive collaborations — Whitcraft x Bell's Gamay from Pence Ranch, Tyler x Bell's Pinot Noir from Sta. Rita Hills, Foxen x Bell's Cabernet Franc from Santa Maria Valley — that you literally cannot find anywhere else. The white side punches above its weight with the Amoskuil 'Qvevri' blend from South Africa and the Colleleva Verdicchio from Le Marche sitting alongside Loire heavyweights like Hippolyte Reverdy Sancerre. There's a nod to Champagne with Fourny et Fils 1er Cru and a Gilles Gaudron Brut Vouvray doing honest sparkling work at a gentler price. Gaps are real — no aged Burgundy, no Riesling, nothing over $120 for the big-occasion crowd — but within what they're doing, the intentionality is hard to argue with.
Thirteen of the fourteen bottles are available by the glass, which is practically unheard of and frankly generous. At $12–$35 a pour, you can work your way through the Roussanne, the Gamay, and the Côtes du Rhône in a single sitting without committing to a bottle — a smart move for a tasting-menu context where the food keeps shifting. The range of styles available by the glass alone — pét-nat-adjacent Vouvray, skin-contact South African white, local Grenache rosé — beats most wine bars in town.

A Kermit Lynch-sourced southern Rhône blend at $45 a bottle is the kind of thing that disappears fast. Reliable GSM structure, honest fruit, and a name behind it you can trust — this is the move if you want a red without drama or sticker shock.
Amoskuil Semillon, Chenin Blanc, Viognier 'Qvevri' South Africa 2021
Most tables at a French bistro are going to reach for the Sancerre and call it a night. Don't. This South African field blend fermented in qvevri is the most interesting bottle on the list — textured, amber-adjacent, and completely unlike anything else here. It rewards curiosity.
Fourny et Fils Chardonnay, Pinot Noir 'Grand Terroirs' 1er Cru Champagne
At $120 it's the most expensive bottle on a list where everything else tops out at $90, and while Fourny et Fils is a solid grower house, you're not getting $120 worth of special occasion energy from a restaurant with a 14-bottle list and no cellar program to back it up. The Gilles Gaudron Brut Vouvray at $65 drinks festive enough for most moments.
Whitcraft x Bell's Gamay 'Pence Ranch' Sta Rita Hills 2025 + Duck confit or any charcuterie course on the tasting menu
Sta. Rita Hills Gamay is a genuinely weird and wonderful thing — bright acid, cool-climate red fruit, a little savory earthiness — and it handles the richness of duck fat the way a good Beaujolais Village does, cutting through without disappearing. The fact that it's a Bell's-exclusive collaboration makes it the obvious call for a restaurant trying to tell a local story.
The Bottom Line
Bell's is proof that a 14-bottle list curated with conviction beats a 200-bottle list built on autopilot. If you're eating here and not drinking the house collabs, you're leaving the best part of the story on the table.

The Good Land is doing something genuinely useful: bringing a focused, deep-diving Central Coast bottle shop to Santa Barbara with prices that don't punish you for being curious. If you care about SRH Pinot, Paso Syrah, or just want to understand what California wine actually looks like at the producer level, this is a worthwhile stop. Go in with an open mind and a willingness to ask questions.

The catch is that hotel adjacency typically means markups that outpace the neighborhood, so go in with your eyes open and ask your server to point you toward the local producers. We'd send a friend here for a polished night out, with the caveat to let the staff guide you rather than defaulting to the familiar names on the list.
