Walking into Presqu'ile's tasting room, the list is tight — 19 labels, all estate — and that's the point. This isn't a restaurant trying to cover every base; it's a winery saying 'trust us, we know what we're doing out here in Santa Maria Valley.' The prices are honest enough that you don't feel like a tourist getting fleeced.
The list leans hard into cool-climate California: Pinot Noir in three vineyard expressions (Santa Maria Valley, Estate, and Bien Nacido), two tiers of Chardonnay, and then a curveball section that makes you look twice. There's an Aligoté — yes, the Burgundy workhorse grape almost nobody plants in California — and a Gamay that signals this team is paying attention to what's happening in the natural wine conversation without fully going there. Library bottles from 2013 through 2017 round out the list and give you a real sense of how this estate ages. The only real gap is depth outside the Burgundian grape universe; if you want Cab or Zin, you're in the wrong tasting room, and that's fine.

Presqu'ile Winery Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay 2022 — $40
Forty dollars for a single-valley Chardonnay from a producer with this much track record — including estate Chards that show serious aging potential — is genuinely fair. You're getting the house style without paying the estate-label premium.
Presqu'ile Winery Aligoté 2024
Most people walk past this one without a second glance because Aligoté doesn't ring any bells. That's exactly why you should order it. It's a rare California example of Burgundy's other white grape — leaner, more citrus-driven than Chardonnay, and at $36 it's the most interesting bottle on the list that nobody's fighting over.
Presqu'ile Winery Rim Rock Pinot Noir 2015
At $98 it's the most expensive bottle on the list by a significant margin. It's a decade-old single-vineyard Pinot, so the age is real, but without a specific reason to chase this label you're paying a steep premium for provenance you can't verify in the glass on the day you visit. The Estate Pinot Noir 2023 at $65 is a better call for most people.
Presqu'ile Winery Santa Maria Valley Gamay 2025 + Charcuterie Board
Gamay's bright acidity and low tannin make it the ideal charcuterie companion — it cuts through cured fat without bulldozing the subtle stuff. A 2025 vintage means it's drinking fresh and lively right now, which is exactly what you want when you're working through a board of cured meats and aged cheeses.
The Bottom Line
Presqu'ile is the rare tasting room that feels like a destination rather than a sales pitch — the Aligoté and Gamay alone tell you this team is thinking beyond the obvious, and the pricing won't make you wince. If you're driving through Santa Maria Valley and you skip this, you made a mistake.

If you're passing through the Funk Zone and want to actually understand what Santa Barbara wine country is about, this is a better use of an hour than most tasting rooms you'll pay more to visit.
