The wine list at Basso lands exactly where you'd expect for a cozy, neighborhood Mediterranean spot — it's approachable, legible, and built entirely around crowd favorites. There's nothing here to intimidate your aunt who only drinks Pinot Grigio, which is either a feature or a bug depending on who you're dining with. The price ceiling tops out at $74, which keeps the whole thing refreshingly unpretentious.

The 42-label list leans heavily on safe American and Italian producers with little detour into anything unexpected — think Kendall-Jackson, La Crema, and Santa Margherita rather than Vermentino or Grüner Veltliner. The Italian contingent is the strongest corner: the two Chiantis (Querceto Classico at $34, Castello di Verrazzano at $42) at least gesture toward the Mediterranean menu's spirit. Reds beyond Chianti are conspicuously absent from the data we have, and the white side is dominated by a parade of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc that covers every flavor of mainstream but rarely ventures off the beaten path. Sparkling is three bottles deep — Cupcake Prosecco, Elmo Pio Asti, and Piper Sonoma Brut — which is fine for toasting but not exactly a celebration program.

Twenty-two pours by the glass is an impressively high ratio for a 42-label list, which means nearly everything is available without committing to a bottle — a genuine plus for tables ordering across different preferences. Glass pricing runs $8–$11, which is reasonable for Westport, Connecticut, where $14 pours are standard at spots with far less soul. The Woodbridge White Zinfandel at $8/glass and Mezzacorona Chardonnay at $9/glass anchor the budget end; don't expect a sommelier to steer you toward them, but at least they're there.
