You open the wine list at Barbareño and immediately realize this isn't the kind of place that phones it in with a few Napa Cabs and a house Pinot Grigio. There's Dujac, there's Ulysse Collin, there's a house collaboration with Whitcraft — this is a list someone built with actual conviction. For a neighborhood restaurant on Canon Perdido, it has no business being this good.
The 118-label list covers serious ground without feeling scattered: California gets the anchor position with strong representation from Sta. Rita Hills, SLO Coast, Anderson Valley, and Sonoma Coast, while France holds its own across Burgundy, Champagne, Loire, Beaujolais, and the Rhône. Austria shows up too — Wachau, Kamptal, Burgenland — which signals a team that actually drinks wine rather than just sells it. The Whitcraft x Barbareño Quinta del Mar Pinot Noir is a house collaboration that's genuinely interesting, not just a vanity label, and the presence of Domaine de la Côte alongside Ceritas and Littorai shows real taste in the California Pinot category. The main gap is the Southern Hemisphere and Spain, but with a list this intentional, the omission reads like a choice rather than an oversight.

Domaine Dujac Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru Vosne Romanée 2022
At $799 a bottle, this is the list's trophy wine and it will taste exactly as good as $799 feels when the bill arrives. The Dujac is legitimately great wine, but unless someone else is paying, there are far more interesting value propositions on this same list that will leave you just as happy and financially solvent.

Littorai's 'Les Larmes' brings enough bright acidity and red fruit to cut through the richness of smoked pork while its earthy, forest-floor character mirrors the smoke. Anderson Valley Pinot at this level is built for exactly this kind of Central Coast cooking.
