Quilceda Creek in Tacoma? Yes, Really.

Wingman Metrics
You walk into what looks like a neighborhood cocktail bar and bistro, flip open the wine list, and suddenly you're staring at three consecutive vintages of Quilceda Creek Cab and a bottle of Hundred Acre 'Wraith'. That's not normal. That's not a neighborhood bistro wine list — that's someone with strong opinions and a warehouse connection making decisions here.
The list leans hard into Pacific Northwest prestige and Napa power players. Quilceda Creek (2017, 2018, 2019), Leonetti, Figgins Estate, and Long Shadows Pirouette represent Washington's top tier, while Spottswoode, Staglin, and Continuum fly the California flag. There's a Maçanita Tinto from Portugal sneaking in as a token international gesture, and The Prisoner Red Blend is there for the guest who wants something recognizable. The problem is it reads more like a collector's wish list than a cohesive restaurant list — big reds dominate, white wine representation is thin to nonexistent in the data, and there's no real discovery tier for people who don't want to drop $150+ on a bottle with their flatbread.
Sixteen by-the-glass options is a solid count for a neighborhood bistro, and glasses running $14–$22 keeps things accessible on the surface. The range of what's actually being poured by the glass isn't confirmed in detail, but if even a fraction of the bottle list shows up in the glass program, there's real potential here. Just don't expect a rotating seasonal program — this list feels like it doesn't move much.
Long Shadows Pirouette Red Blend — $45–$60 est.
Long Shadows is a Washington collaboration project that consistently punches above its price point. The Pirouette is a Bordeaux-style blend from some of the best sites in the Columbia Valley — if it's the most approachable entry on a list full of $200+ bottles, it's also the smartest order.
Maçanita Maçanita Tinto Red Blend
A Portuguese red sitting quietly on a list full of Napa Cabs and Washington heavyweights. Most tables will walk right past it, but if you want something actually interesting — and likely the best value per ounce on the list — this is the move.
Dom Perignon 2013 Champagne
Dom Pérignon is a fine wine, but at a casual bistro without sommelier service or proper Champagne flutes, you're paying a significant markup for a bottle that deserves better ceremony. Save the Dom for somewhere that can do it justice.
Rodney Strong Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon + Steak entree
Rodney Strong's Alexander Valley Cab is built for red meat — structured tannins, dark fruit, enough heft to stand up to a well-charred steak without requiring you to take out a second mortgage like the Quilceda Creek bottles would.
🎲 The Bottom Line
Bar Bistro is genuinely surprising — a Tacoma neighborhood spot quietly housing some of Washington and California's most coveted reds. The list isn't balanced, the pricing reflects the prestige labels, and the vibe doesn't quite match what's in the cellar, but if you know what you're looking for, there's something real here.
Sixth Avenue · Tacoma · Mediterranean and Northwest-inspired, wood-fired grill
Primo Grill is doing more with its wine list than it gets credit for — especially in a city where 'solid restaurant wine program' often means a wall of Meiomi. It's not flashy, but the Pacific Northwest depth is real and the European picks show genuine curiosity. We'd send a friend here without hesitation.

Sixth Avenue · Tacoma · Argentinian-inspired wood-fired steakhouse and Latin cuisine
Asado is a reliable neighborhood wine pick for red meat lovers who want Argentine bottles done with some care and without getting gouged. It's not a wine destination, but it's a solid companion to one of Tacoma's better wood-fired kitchens.

Cuerno Bravo punches above its weight class on wine selection — the Mencía and Betz picks alone set it apart from your average steakhouse list — but the markups across the board are steep enough to sting. Come for the bottle you'd never order anywhere else; just don't expect restaurant-week pricing.

South Tacoma · Tacoma · Mediterranean
The Adriatic Grill is the kind of neighborhood restaurant that earns a loyal following by doing the right things quietly — a thoughtful wine list, fair pricing, and a Wine Wednesday program that is frankly one of the better deals in Tacoma. If you can get there on a Wednesday with a group and a hunger for lamb, you're having a great night.

Tacoma Mall · Tacoma · Brazilian Steakhouse (Churrascaria)
Texas de Brazil Tacoma is a terrific place to eat a lot of meat. It is not a place to drink interesting wine. The list is corporate, the markups are real, and the effort put into the wine program is a fraction of what goes into the gaucho service. Order strategically, go on a Thursday if that promo holds locally, and spend your wine dollars carefully.

El Gaucho Tacoma is a reliable wine destination if you know what to order and when to show up — Wednesday's half-price program changes the math considerably. The Argentine depth is the real story here; lean into Zuccardi and let the sommelier do their job.

Bistro Byronz isn't a destination for wine — it's a destination for a good meal in a comfortable room, and the wine list supports that mission without getting in the way. Send a friend here for dinner without hesitation; just tell them to order the Jordan and not overthink it.

Compane Bistro is a dependable neighborhood spot where the wine list won't embarrass you, but it will charge you for the privilege of being dependable. Stick to the Truchard, avoid the impulse to order by the bottle on anything priced under $50 retail, and you'll have a fine night.

This isn't a wine list — it's a winery that opened a really nice room in Spokane and brought its whole catalog with it. If you're good with that framing, and you should be, this is one of the more satisfying wine experiences in the city.
