Walk in expecting a tight, focused list and that's exactly what you get — about ten labels, all Auteur, all built around Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from some of California's most serious cool-climate addresses. There's no filler here, no crowd-pleasing Cab tucked in the corner to keep the tourists happy. This is a winery tasting room that knows exactly what it is and doesn't apologize for it.
The lineup leans hard into terroir storytelling: Anderson Valley, Sonoma Coast, Russian River Valley, and individual vineyard designates like Ferrington, Balinard, Campbell Ranch, and Savoy. If you've ever wanted a side-by-side lesson in how dramatically Pinot Noir shifts from site to site, this is a rare chance to do it without flying to Burgundy. The Chardonnay gets real estate too — the Ferrington Vineyard bottling anchors the white side alongside the Sonoma Coast appellation pour. Two sparkling options, including a Blanc de Noir and a Blanc de Noir Rosé, round things out and keep it interesting.
Auteur structures the experience around tasting flights rather than individual pours — the Appellation Series flight runs $40 per person and the Single-Vineyard Series hits $60. Auteur 2024 Ferrington Vineyard Anderson Valley Chardonnay + Dungeness crab
Anderson Valley Chardonnay at this level — cool, taut, with real acid — cuts right through the richness of Dungeness without steamrolling it. It's one of the few pairings where the wine and the ingredient are essentially neighbors.
The Bottom Line
Auteur isn't trying to be a full-service wine bar and it doesn't need to be — the focused lineup, fair flight pricing, and site-specific Pinot Noir depth make it one of the more honest tasting experiences in Healdsburg. If you care about where your Pinot actually comes from, make time for this one.

The Marshall Store earns its reputation as a low-key, scenic spot for fresh West Coast oysters and smoked salmon — and if that's your mission, it delivers. But the wine program is effectively an afterthought: undocumented, uncurated, and not a reason to visit. Bring a bottle from one of the Healdsburg producers down the road, check the corkage policy at the door, and spend your energy on the food.
