You're sitting on a working estate vineyard in one of California's most exciting wine regions, surrounded by actual vines — and the wine list has two labels on it. Two. That's not curation, that's a winery café that forgot to write a wine list.
Ancient Peaks pours exclusively their own estate wines from Margarita Vineyard, which is fine in theory — the vineyard has real credibility in the Central Coast appellation. But two labels is not a wine program, it's a product demo. There's no exploration, no regional context, no reason to linger over a second glass wondering what to try next. If you came to Paso Robles to drink wine, this list will leave you restless.
There are 4-8 glass pours available depending on what's open that day, which at least gives you some options within the Ancient Peaks lineup. At $15-$25 a glass, you're paying restaurant pricing for wines you could likely find at retail for considerably less. The happy hour window Monday through Wednesday from 2:30 to 4:30 PM is the one smart move here — that's when this list makes sense.
Ancient Peaks Chardonnay — $15
If you're going to drink here, start at the lower end of the glass price range. The Chardonnay is the more approachable entry point into the estate lineup and the most likely to be priced near the floor of that $15-$25 range.
Ancient Peaks Cabernet Sauvignon
Margarita Vineyard Cab has a legitimate reputation in Paso Robles circles — the calcareous soils and cooler southern Paso climate give it more structure than the fruit-forward Cabs from the warmer north side. If you're here anyway, this is the bottle that actually reflects the terroir under your feet.
Ancient Peaks Cabernet Sauvignon
At the top of that $25-per-glass ceiling, you're paying a premium for wine you can buy retail and drink at your Airbnb. The markup doesn't justify the setting when the setting is literally the winery itself.
Ancient Peaks Cabernet Sauvignon + Small bites charcuterie
The Cab's structure and dark fruit play well against cured meats and cheese — and the small bites format means you're not locking into a full entrée while you figure out whether you want a second glass.
The Bottom Line
This is a winery tasting experience dressed up as a café wine list, and it doesn't quite pull off either. Come for the vineyard views and the farm-to-table food, but don't expect the wine list to challenge you.

Luna Red plays it safe with a short, approachable list that prioritizes accessibility over adventure — fair pricing and a generous by-the-glass program make it easy to drink well without overthinking it. The glaring absence of local Paso Robles producers is a head-scratcher for a restaurant sitting in the middle of wine country, but if you grab the Jermann Pinot Grigio or the Dona Paula Malbec, you won't be unhappy. Send a friend here for a casual dinner and decent pours; don't send them here expecting to discover something new.

Cépage is a destination restaurant in a destination wine region — the kind of place you plan a Saturday around, not somewhere you stumble into. The wine program appears honest to its terroir and purpose, though pricing at this caliber of operation rarely favors the guest. If you're already out on Highway 46 with a reservation in hand, you're likely going to have a very good time; just don't arrive expecting a sprawling global list or a killer value-hunting opportunity.

Finca is doing something genuinely unusual: a sparkling-forward wine list in a Mexican-California restaurant in Paso Robles, executed with real taste and mostly fair pricing. If you love Champagne, grower bubbles, or just want to drink something unexpected with your meal, this list rewards curiosity. If you need a robust still wine section, look elsewhere — this kitchen paired its cellar to a very specific vision and leaned all the way in.

The Piper Wine Lounge punches above its hotel-bar weight class by leaning hard into local producers and offering some genuinely adventurous whites by the glass. Markup is fair across the board, and $15 for Tablas Creek is the kind of detail that earns goodwill fast. If you're staying at Paso Robles Inn or just wandering through town, this is worth a stop — especially if you let the Albariños and Grenache Blancs do the talking.

Melo Mela Kitchen earns its Wild Card badge because a polished Italian-California kitchen inside a working Paso Robles winery is exactly the kind of unexpected combo that over-delivers. The service reputation is genuinely strong, the setting is hard to beat, and the wine program's regional focus feels earned rather than lazy. If you're driving through wine country and want a sit-down meal where the glass in your hand actually reflects the land outside, this is the move — just book ahead.

Jeffry's is a genuinely interesting concept — Paso Robles wine country meets Central Coast smoke culture — and the downtown setting gives it enough foot traffic to keep things lively. We don't have the full wine list details to make specific bottle calls, so go in curious, ask your server what's local, and let the smoked tri-tip do the rest of the convincing. Worth a visit if you're already in Paso and want wine with your brisket without feeling overdressed.
