You're sitting on a working estate vineyard in one of California's most exciting wine regions, surrounded by actual vines — and the wine list has two labels on it. Two. That's not curation, that's a winery café that forgot to write a wine list.
Ancient Peaks pours exclusively their own estate wines from Margarita Vineyard, which is fine in theory — the vineyard has real credibility in the Central Coast appellation. But two labels is not a wine program, it's a product demo. There's no exploration, no regional context, no reason to linger over a second glass wondering what to try next. If you came to Paso Robles to drink wine, this list will leave you restless.
There are 4-8 glass pours available depending on what's open that day, which at least gives you some options within the Ancient Peaks lineup. At $15-$25 a glass, you're paying restaurant pricing for wines you could likely find at retail for considerably less. The happy hour window Monday through Wednesday from 2:30 to 4:30 PM is the one smart move here — that's when this list makes sense.
Ancient Peaks Chardonnay — $15
If you're going to drink here, start at the lower end of the glass price range. The Chardonnay is the more approachable entry point into the estate lineup and the most likely to be priced near the floor of that $15-$25 range.
Ancient Peaks Cabernet Sauvignon
Margarita Vineyard Cab has a legitimate reputation in Paso Robles circles — the calcareous soils and cooler southern Paso climate give it more structure than the fruit-forward Cabs from the warmer north side. If you're here anyway, this is the bottle that actually reflects the terroir under your feet.
Ancient Peaks Cabernet Sauvignon
At the top of that $25-per-glass ceiling, you're paying a premium for wine you can buy retail and drink at your Airbnb. The markup doesn't justify the setting when the setting is literally the winery itself.
Ancient Peaks Cabernet Sauvignon + Small bites charcuterie
The Cab's structure and dark fruit play well against cured meats and cheese — and the small bites format means you're not locking into a full entrée while you figure out whether you want a second glass.
The Bottom Line
This is a winery tasting experience dressed up as a café wine list, and it doesn't quite pull off either. Come for the vineyard views and the farm-to-table food, but don't expect the wine list to challenge you.

Granada Bistro earns its place on the Paso Robles wine circuit — fair pricing, a genuinely local-focused list, and a bottle deal that's hard to argue with. It's not the deepest list in wine country, but it's an honest one, and that counts for a lot when you're already surrounded by the producers on the menu.

The Gold Rush Steak House is a nostalgic, only-in-California experience where the décor and the prime rib are the stars — the wine list is a supporting character that does its job without embarrassing itself. If you're in it for the food and the atmosphere, you'll drink fine; if you're here for the wine, you're in the wrong zip code.

Cello is doing the right things for a resort restaurant in wine country — local focus, sommelier on staff, a serious glass program — and it's mostly worth your time. The markup keeps it from being a destination wine experience, but if you're already staying at the Allegretto, this is absolutely where you're drinking tonight.

The Spoon Trade has no business being this thoughtful about wine for a casual beach-town comfort food spot, and that's the whole point. If you're in Grover Beach and want a genuinely local glass with your fried chicken, this is a better bet than anything with a bigger wine list and a worse sense of place.
