Wingman Metrics
The wine list here reads like a love letter to Lodi β and we mean that in the best possible way. This isn't a list cobbled together by a corporate purchasing manager; it feels curated, regional, and genuinely proud of its backyard. Walking into Americana House, you get the immediate sense that someone on staff actually cares whether you drink well tonight.
The list skews heavily Lodi, which is exactly the right call when you're sitting in the middle of one of California's most undervalued wine regions. McCay Cellars, Harney Lane, Michael David Winery, and Fields Family Wines all make appearances β these aren't Lodi ringers thrown in for local color, they're the real deal producers doing serious work with old-vine Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. There's enough broader California and worldwide representation to keep non-Zin drinkers from feeling stranded, but the regional depth is the story here. If you came to Lodi and ordered something from Napa, that's on you.
With 12-18 pours available by the glass, there's real range to work with β and in a wine country restaurant at this price point, that's what we want to see. The glass program appears to rotate with the seasons, which suggests someone is paying attention rather than just refilling the same six bottles year-round. We'd expect the Lodi producers to anchor the BTG list, and if McCay or Harney Lane is pouring by the glass on any given night, that's your move.
Harney Lane Lodi Zinfandel β $Unknown
Harney Lane is one of Lodi's most consistent producers working with heritage old-vine fruit β getting this in a sit-down restaurant at a fair markup is a genuine score compared to what you'd pay for a comparable Napa or Sonoma Zin with half the pedigree.
Fields Family Wines
Most diners at a special-occasion restaurant default to the recognizable names, which means Fields Family often gets overlooked β a mistake. This is a small-production Lodi outfit doing thoughtful, terroir-driven work that punches well above its profile. Ask your server what they're pouring from Fields that night.
Michael David Winery Petite Petit
Michael David is a perfectly fine winery and Petite Petit is an easy crowd-pleaser, but it's also available at every grocery store and Costco in California. At restaurant markup, you're overpaying for something you could grab off a shelf for $15. With McCay and Harney Lane on the same list, there's no reason to default here.
McCay Cellars Zinfandel + Seafood Entree
McCay's Zinfandel runs riper and more structured than typical Lodi fruit-bombs, which gives it enough backbone to stand up to a rich, butter-finished seafood dish without steamrolling it. It's a slightly counterintuitive call β most people reach for white with seafood β but at a New American bistro where the kitchen is leaning into bold flavors, this works.
π² The Bottom Line
Americana House is what happens when a wine country restaurant actually leans into its wine country address β the Lodi-focused list, knowledgeable staff, and proper glassware make this worth the trip even if you're not staying at the property. Send your friends here, then tell them to skip the Petite Petit.
