Wingman Metrics
The list opens with bubbles and doesn't apologize for it — Crémant, Prosecco, Valdobbiadene, and a California Blanc de Blanc all jostling for your attention before you've even looked at the whites. At 63 labels with 23 pours available by the glass, this is not a restaurant wine list pretending to care about wine. This is a wine program that built the restaurant around it.
Vinology pulls from corners of the wine world most Ann Arbor menus would never touch: there's a GD Vajra Langhe Nebbiolo sitting next to a Vale do Bomfim Touriga Nacional Blend, a Pieropan Soave holding court with Nicolas Potel's Mâcon Villages Chardonnay, and a Dr. Heyden Pinot Noir from Rheinhessen that has no business being this interesting at this price. The Portuguese and Italian pours show genuine curatorial intent — not just a nod to Europe but actual selections with a point of view. There are gaps (no serious Burgundy deep cuts, no real natural wine presence), but for a mid-sized college town wine bar, the ambition punches well above its weight class. The Coravin program is a nice touch, giving access to bottles that would otherwise be commitment-only territory.
Twenty-three by-the-glass options is a genuinely impressive number, and the range covers sparkling through dessert without padding the list with filler. The Bisol Jeio Valdobbiadene at $12 a glass is the obvious entry point for anyone who isn't sure what they want yet. The rotating Rosé du Jour keeps things fresh and gives regulars a reason to check back in.
Bisol Jeio Valdobbiadene Superiore DOCG — $12
Bisol is one of the benchmark Prosecco producers and Valdobbiadene Superiore is the top designation — getting this in a glass for $12 is the kind of deal that makes a list worth visiting. Order two.
Dr. Heyden Pinot Noir Rheinhessen
German Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) gets skipped constantly by people who assume it can't compete. Rheinhessen is producing genuinely interesting, lighter-styled reds right now, and Dr. Heyden is one of the producers worth knowing. Most people at this table will order the Oregon Pinot. Don't be most people.
St. Innocent Villages Cuvee Pinot Noir
St. Innocent is a solid Willamette producer, but at $80 a bottle it's the most expensive red on a list that has the GD Vajra Nebbiolo at $68 and a Portuguese Touriga blend at $40. The premium isn't justified when the neighbors are this compelling.
GD Vajra Langhe Nebbiolo + Charcuterie Board
Langhe Nebbiolo has the structure and tannin to cut through cured meats and aged cheeses without the Barolo price tag or the wait time. It's the move on a wine bar board, and Vajra makes one of the cleaner, more food-friendly versions of this grape.
The Bottom Line
Vinology is doing something genuinely interesting for Ann Arbor — a globally curious, fairly priced wine list with real depth by the glass and producers you won't find at the Italian place down the street. We'd send a friend here specifically for wine, which is not something we say lightly.

La Serre is a genuinely beautiful room with a wine list that's still finding its voice — solid enough for a date night, not yet a destination for anyone who really cares about what's in the glass. Come for the mussels and steak frites, drink something French, and hope the list grows into the space it inhabits.
