Wingman Metrics
Walking into The Grape Life feels less like a restaurant and more like a wine shop that decided to get comfortable β in the best way. The boutique lounge setup, live music calendar, and curated-by-the-glass focus signal that someone here actually cares about wine, which already puts it ahead of most spots in a mid-sized Midwest market. It's intimate, unhurried, and set up to make you linger.
The list leans into Italy and California as its twin anchors, which is a reasonable play for a neighborhood lounge that wants accessible variety without overwhelming guests. You'll find producers like Barone Fini on the Italian side and Amulet Estate representing California β not trophy names, but honest, well-made bottles that drink without pretension. The range spans dry whites, dry reds, and a semi-sweet/sweet category, which is smart programming for a market where not everyone is ready to go full bone-dry. The gaps are real β no deep dives into Burgundy, RhΓ΄ne, or Iberia β but for what it is, the curation feels intentional rather than lazy.
Twenty to forty options by the glass is genuinely generous for a spot this size, and it's the heart of what makes The Grape Life work. The flight program is a real differentiator β it's an easy, low-stakes way to move people through the list and discover something new. Glass prices start at $11+, which lands in reasonable territory for this format.
Barone Fini Pinot Grigio β $11+
Barone Fini is a reliable, clean Alto Adige-style Grigio that punches above its price point β crisp, food-friendly, and not trying to be something it's not. At entry-level glass pricing, it's the easy yes for a first pour.
Amulet Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
California Cab at a lounge like this often means jammy and forgettable, but Amulet Estate is a smaller-production label that most guests will walk right past in favor of something they recognize. Worth the ask.
Semi-sweet house pours
The semi-sweet category exists to comfort the cautious, which is fine β but house-level sweet pours at any lounge tend to be the lowest-margin, least interesting bottles on the list. If you're going sweet, at least ask what it is before you commit.
Barone Fini Pinot Grigio + Cheese and Meat Board
A charcuterie-style board with aged cheeses and cured meats needs something with enough acidity to cut through the fat without picking a fight. Barone Fini's clean, citrus-edged Grigio does exactly that β it refreshes without overpowering, and keeps the cheese tasting like cheese.
π² The Bottom Line
The Grape Life is the kind of quietly good wine spot that Davenport probably doesn't fully appreciate yet. It's not trying to be a big-city wine bar, but it's doing more right than most β send a friend here on a Thursday with live music and let the flight menu do the work.
East Davenport Village Β· Davenport Β· American Cafe, Bistro and Bar
Brew in the Village isn't trying to be a wine destination and it doesn't pretend to be β but Wednesday half-price wine with a food purchase is one of the better deals in Davenport, and the list is priced fairly enough that you won't feel gouged the other six nights. Send a friend here for a low-key weeknight dinner; just tell them to go on a Wednesday.

5th Avenue Syndicate is doing more than most hotel restaurants bother to do with wine β nearly everything is available by the glass, there are a few legitimate picks in the mix, and the pricing, while steep in spots, doesn't cross into outright insulting. Send a friend here if they want something familiar and competent; just steer them away from the Caymus.

Los Primos is a place you go for the food and the margaritas β the wine list is an afterthought and everyone involved seems to know it. Order the cocktails, be happy, and don't let the Merlot talk you into anything.

Outback's wine list in Davenport is a chain doing the bare minimum β recognizable labels, steep markups, zero ambition. Come for the steak, order the Koonunga Hill if you must have wine, and save your serious wine spending for somewhere that earned it.

Come here for the steak and the rolls β they're genuinely good. But the wine program is an afterthought at best, and you're better off ordering a draft beer or skipping alcohol entirely than wrestling with this list.
