First Impression
You walk into a casual gastropub expecting a two-column wine list of Malbec and Pinot Grigio, and instead find something with actual geographic range. The list is short, sure, but the selections feel like someone made deliberate choices rather than just calling the Sysco rep.
Selection Deep Dive
The Foundry keeps its wine list tight, anchored by an Italian backbone with a notable Australian lean โ not the most obvious pairing for a Westport pizza spot, but it works. Zonin's Soave from the Veneto gives the list an Italian credibility check, while Voyager Estate and Chain of Ponds signal someone was paying attention when they built this thing. The regional spread from Veneto to Margaret River to the Adelaide Hills is genuinely more interesting than 90% of comparable gastropubs. The gaps are real โ no France, no domestic options visible in the data โ but what's here has purpose.
By the Glass
By-the-glass specifics aren't fully documented, but the list is compact enough that most bottles likely rotate through the glass program. Don't expect eight options; do expect that what's available is drinkable and fairly priced for the neighborhood.
Zonin Regions Soave DOC โ null
Soave is criminally underrated by American diners who think Italy stops at Pinot Grigio. Clean, food-friendly, and priced for a pizza night โ this is exactly the kind of bottle a list like this should anchor itself on.
Chain of Ponds 'Section 400' Pinot Noir
Adelaide Hills Pinot at a gastropub in Kansas City is not something you see every day. This is a cooler-climate Australian Pinot with genuine elegance, and most people at this restaurant are going to walk right past it. Don't.
Voyager Estate 'Girt by Sea' Chardonnay
Voyager is a solid Margaret River producer, but 'Girt by Sea' is their entry-level label โ it's fine, but it's the most generic pick on a list that otherwise shows some personality. You can do better here.
Chain of Ponds 'Section 400' Pinot Noir + Vegan cheese pizza with vegan Italian sausage
A lighter-bodied, fruit-forward Pinot from the Adelaide Hills has the acidity to cut through the richness of the vegan sausage without bulldozing a pizza that doesn't need a big tannic red.
๐ฒ The Bottom Line
The Foundry is a Wild Card in the best sense โ a casual pizza and burger spot that clearly thought harder about wine than its neighbors did. Don't come here expecting depth, but come expecting to be pleasantly surprised.
