Wingman Metrics
Walking into The English Inn, a historic manor along the Grand River, you half-expect the wine list to lean heavily on dusty Old World bottles with unreadable labels. Instead, it's a confident, California-forward collection that fits the room — classic, comfortable, and without much fuss.
The list sits in that 100-150 bottle sweet spot: enough to make a real choice, not so much that you need a guide dog. California anchors everything, with Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir doing the heavy lifting. Familiar names like Jordan Winery and Stag's Leap Wine Cellars show up, which tells you the program is about reliability and crowd confidence rather than adventure. Kendall-Jackson on the list is the one place where the curation starts to feel like an airport lounge — it's fine, but it's not exciting.
Ten to sixteen options by the glass is genuinely solid for a country inn in Eaton Rapids, Michigan — we were not expecting this much range. The selection tracks the bottle list, meaning California dominates the pour program too. Rotation appears limited, so don't count on anything seasonal or spontaneous.
Jordan Winery Cabernet Sauvignon — $65
Jordan consistently punches above its price point, and at a historic inn with prime rib on the menu, this is the bottle that earns its keep. Classic Alexander Valley structure, no surprises, all upside.
Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Most guests here are going straight for the Cab or ordering whatever the server suggests. The Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is the quiet overachiever on this list — cooler-climate, more nuanced, and worth the detour if you're ordering the rack of lamb.
Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay
You can find this at any grocery store for $12 a bottle. Whatever the markup here, it's not worth it when there are better options on the same list.
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon + Prime Rib
Stag's Leap brings enough structure and dark fruit to stand up to a proper slice of prime rib without bulldozing it. It's a classic Napa pairing executed in a classic room — hard to argue with.
✔️ The Bottom Line
The English Inn isn't trying to be a wine destination, but it earns its Wine Spectator Award of Excellence — held since 1994 — by keeping a focused, fairly priced California list that genuinely fits the food and the setting. If you're making the trip out to Eaton Rapids, order the Cab, get the prime rib, and let the Grand River do the rest.
Bend · Bend · American, European
Flights is the kind of wine bar that earns its stripes by caring about the right producers in the right regions — it's not trying to be everything, just a solid Old World anchor in an unlikely zip code. If you're passing through Bend and want a proper glass of something Italian or French without flying to the coast, this is your stop.

Anthony's is the kind of reliable, well-maintained wine list that earns its three-decade Wine Spectator credential without ever trying to surprise you — and on a Wednesday when everything is half price, it's genuinely one of the better wine deals in the North Country. Send your parents here; they'll be happy.

Ramsay's Kitchen earned its Wine Spectator Award of Excellence on the strength of a well-curated California list and a respectable by-the-glass program, and that credential is deserved — just don't come expecting adventure. It's a dependable, if pricey, wine stop on the Strip where the Wednesday half-price deal is the real story.
