Wingman Metrics
You walk in expecting wall-to-wall craft beer and nothing else β and you'd be mostly right. But tucked behind the tap handles and TV schedules is a nine-bottle wine list that, for a sports bar, doesn't embarrass itself. The prices alone are worth a double take.
Nine labels isn't deep, but the list hits a few legitimate notes: a Sancerre from Domaine RenΓ© Malleron at $13 a glass is genuinely surprising to find next to loaded nachos, and the Gouguenheim Malbec from Mendoza and Mas Buscados Tempranillo from Tierra Castilla round out the red side with some actual personality. The Chateau St. Jean Culinary Collection Chardonnay and Chateau Souverain Pinot Noir are bulk California workhorses that drag the average down a bit, and there are no real Old World reds or anything with any age to speak of. This is a list built for accessibility, not adventure β but it clears the bar for its context by a wider margin than you'd expect.
All nine bottles are poured by the glass, which means every option is a glass option β no bottle-only exclusives to chase. At $9β$13 across the board, the pricing is flat and honest, and the Sancerre at $13 is the clear standout value in the lineup. Don't expect much rotation; this list looks like it doesn't move often.
Dom. Rene Malleron Sancerre β $13
A legitimate Loire Sancerre at $13 a glass in a sports bar is almost offensive to the natural order of things. Retail on a producer-level Sancerre typically runs $20β$30 a bottle minimum β getting it here by the glass at this price is a genuine steal.
Mas Buscados Tempranillo
Most people at a bar like this reach for the Malbec or the Cab without thinking. The Tempranillo from Tierra Castilla is the quieter, more interesting choice β earthy, a little rustic, and a better match for anything on this menu with some char on it.
Chateau Souverain Pinot Noir
Chateau Souverain's Pinot Noir is a high-volume California pour that rarely rises above thin and forgettable. At a bar built for bold food, it's going to get lost β pick the Tempranillo or Malbec instead and actually taste something.
Dom. Rene Malleron Sancerre + Buffalo chicken wings
The acidity and citrus bite in the Sancerre cuts straight through the butter and heat of Buffalo sauce in a way that beer can't quite manage. It sounds wrong on paper and tastes right in the glass β order both and tell no one.
π² The Bottom Line
The Blind Rhino is not a wine destination, and it knows it β but a $13 Sancerre in a Black Rock sports bar qualifies as a minor miracle. Come for the wings, stay mildly surprised by what's in your glass.
Downtown Bridgeport Β· Bridgeport Β· Italian-American Steakhouse
Ralph 'n Rich's wine list does exactly what it's supposed to do for a classic downtown steakhouse β it keeps the regulars happy and doesn't embarrass anyone at a business dinner. Just steer toward the Italian bottles and away from the California marquee names, and you'll drink well enough.

East Side Waterfront Β· Bridgeport Β· Italian Banquet
Vazzy's wine list does exactly what it needs to do for a waterfront Italian banquet spot: it keeps the crowd happy, offers a few real bottles worth ordering, and doesn't embarrass itself. Just steer clear of the obvious California picks and head straight for the Italian reds β that's where this list earns its keep.

Capri is doing the right things in the kitchen, but the wine list is coasting on name recognition and comfortable margins. Come for the Chicken Parm, order the Riesling, and keep your expectations in check.

East Side Β· Bridgeport Β· Portuguese Seafood
Solmar isn't a wine destination, but it's doing something quietly right β a Portuguese list for a Portuguese kitchen, fairly priced and unapologetically focused. Come for the seafood, order the Alvarinho, don't overthink it.

East Side Β· Bridgeport Β· Brazilian/Portuguese-style churrasco and buffet
Ponte Nova is a great neighborhood churrasco spot that simply doesn't care about wine β and that's fine, as long as you don't either. Order the Vinho Verde, eat the meat, and leave the wine ambitions at home.

Joseph's is a dependable, no-surprises steakhouse wine list that serves its room well β if you're a Napa Cab loyalist dropping $60 on a steak, you'll be comfortable here. Just don't expect the list to challenge you, and watch the markup on the headline bottles.
