Wingman Metrics
You walk into a stylish downtown Flagstaff dining room and pick up a wine list with 175 labels β almost all Italian β and your first instinct is to look around and confirm you're not in a major city. This list reads like it was built by someone who actually loves Italian wine, not someone who Googled 'popular Italian wines' and called it a day. The range runs from easy-drinking Prosecco to a $495 Brunello from a producer literally named after the restaurant itself.
Teatro goes deep on the Italian canon without being stuffy about it. Barolo and Barbaresco are well-represented β Oddero's single-vineyard Vigna Rionda Riserva 2014 and Paitin's Serraboella Vecchie Vigne Riserva 2016 are serious bottles that earn their place. Brunello gets two strong entries with Casanova di Neri and the house-namesake Salicutti 'Teatro.' There's also range beyond the big reds: Cantina Terlan's Quarz Sauvignon Riserva from Alto Adige is a white wine that'll make Burgundy lovers pay attention, and Nervi Conterno's Gattinara Vigna Molsino shows the list doesn't just chase trophy appellations. The one gap is minimal coverage outside of Italy β if you want a French or New World detour, you're mostly out of luck.
Sixteen options by the glass is a generous program, running $10 to $22 a pour, and the range covers enough ground to make the decision genuinely interesting rather than a coin flip between Pinot Grigio and Chianti. We'd like to see more rotation or a stated glass program refresh schedule, but what's there holds up. The ceiling on those glass pours β quality-wise β is high enough that you could happily build an entire meal without ever cracking a bottle.
Franco Serra Barolo 2021 β $85
Barolo at $85 is increasingly rare in a restaurant setting where the appellation is used as a license to print money. This is a fair entry point into one of Italy's most demanding grapes, and at this price you're not sacrificing to get there.
Nervi Conterno Gattinara 'Vigna Molsino' 2018
Most tables at an Italian restaurant will instinctively reach for Barolo or Brunello. Gattinara is Nebbiolo's quieter, more mineral-driven cousin from northern Piedmont, and the Nervi Conterno name β a collaboration between Roberto Conterno and the historic Nervi estate β brings serious pedigree. This one rewards the curious.
Salicutti 'Teatro' Brunello di Montalcino 2019
At $495 this is the showpiece bottle, and yes, it's a genuinely great wine β but unless it's a very special occasion and you're splitting it across a table of Brunello obsessives, the value math doesn't work for most diners. The Casanova di Neri White Label 2019 gives you serious Brunello at a less punishing number.
Fattoria Le Pupille 'Saffredi' 2022 + House-made Italian pasta with braised meat ragΓΉ
Saffredi is a Maremma Tuscan blend built on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with some Alicante β dark fruit, structured tannins, earthy backbone. Against a slow-braised meat ragΓΉ over house-made pasta, it's the kind of match that makes the table go quiet for a minute.
π₯ The Bottom Line
Teatro is the kind of wine program that punches so far above its weight class for a Northern Arizona mountain town that it borders on absurd. If you care about Italian wine, make the reservation.
West Flagstaff Β· Flagstaff Β· Steakhouse
Texas Roadhouse is a legitimately fun place to eat a steak, but the wine program is an afterthought dressed up in a laminated menu. Order a beer, a cocktail, or just drink your weight in the complimentary bread β your palate will thank you either way.

Red Lobster Flagstaff is not a wine destination, and it's not pretending to be β if you're here, you're here for the biscuits and the shrimp, and that's fine. Grab a Matua or hit happy hour for the $5 pours, and spend your real wine energy somewhere else in town.

We wouldn't send a friend here for wine β we'd tell them to order a cocktail and enjoy the Bloomin' Onion without overthinking it. The wine list is a chain afterthought, and that's fine, but it earns no points for effort.

Olive Garden's wine program exists to check a box, not elevate your dinner β order what you came for (the pasta, the breadsticks, the vibe), and if you need wine, point at the Chianti and move on. If wine actually matters to you tonight, there are better options in Flagstaff.

Pita Jungle isn't a wine destination, but Wine Wednesday turns a modest, play-it-safe list into a genuinely good deal β $9 bottles with a plate of hummus and pita is hard to argue with. Come for the food, drink opportunistically, and set a calendar reminder for Wednesdays.

Diablo Burger is a legitimately good burger spot that happens to have two wines on the menu as an afterthought. Come for the Cheddar Diablo Burger, order a beer, and let someone else worry about the wine list.

Central Boca Β· Boca Raton Β· Modern Italian
Novello is a genuinely good wine list for Boca Raton β Italian-focused, with real depth at the top end β but the markups and the static glass program hold it back from being truly exciting. Go for the Amarone or the Super Tuscans; skip the Napa cult bottles unless someone else is paying.

Corso is a dependable Italian wine list in a neighborhood that could easily get away with doing much less β it doesn't dazzle, but it doesn't disappoint either. If the Wednesday half-price bottle rumor holds up when you call ahead, it might just tip into genuinely great value territory.
