Wingman Metrics
You're in the heart of California wine country and this place is pouring Douro reds and Madeira β that alone earns our attention. The list is unapologetically Portuguese, which takes guts when you're surrounded by Sonoma Pinot Noir on every corner. It's a deliberate, confident choice that the room β all soccer on TV and fado energy β fully commits to.
The wine program sticks to its lane: Portugal, full stop. You'll find Douro reds, Port, and Madeira alongside lighter Portuguese whites and rosΓ©s, covering the country's major styles without trying to be everything to everyone. The bottle range of $48β$120 suggests a curated list rather than a deep cellar, but the focus means the picks are intentional, not filler. What's missing is breadth β if you're hoping to find an Alentejo or a Vinho Verde exploration, you may need to ask your server what's new.
Glass pours run $14β$28, which is reasonable for a dedicated wine bar with a specialty focus. The 'Vinho Of The Week' feature β like the Contraste Douro 2021 they've spotlighted on Instagram β signals that the by-the-glass program rotates and someone back there is paying attention. Exact glass count is unclear, but the rotation-based approach means repeat visitors have a reason to keep coming back.
Contraste Douro 2021 β $14-$28/glass
Featured as the Vinho Of The Week, the Contraste from the Douro is the kind of structured, food-friendly red that would cost you twice as much at a trendy Napa restaurant. At glass prices in that lower range, it's the move.
Madeira
Most people walk past Madeira like it's their grandmother's cooking sherry. It's not. It's one of the most age-worthy, complex, and food-versatile wines on the planet β and a Portuguese tapas bar is exactly the right place to finally understand why.
Port
Port is the obvious order here and everyone will nudge you toward it. Unless you're doing a deliberate dessert finish, it's a predictable call at a list that has more interesting territory to explore. Push past the familiar.
Contraste Douro 2021 + Portuguese tasting plates
Douro reds are built around bold fruit and firm structure β exactly what you need to stand up to salty, savory Portuguese small plates. The Contraste cuts through the richness without bullying the food off the table.
π² The Bottom Line
Tasca Tasca is the Wild Card call because finding a genuinely Portuguese wine program in Sonoma β of all places β is the kind of unexpected that we live for. If you're tired of the same Pinot parade and want something with actual personality, come here.

Bravas is a Wild Card in the best sense: a casual, loud, share-everything tapas bar in the middle of Sonoma Wine Country that actually built a wine list with a brain. It won't blow your mind, but it will keep your glass interesting all night without emptying your wallet.

Chalkboard isn't trying to be a destination wine bar β it's a polished Healdsburg restaurant that takes its wine list seriously enough to stock Rochioli, Copain, and Ridge alongside Taittinger and actually price them like they want you to order a second bottle. Send a friend here and tell them to start with the Sauvignon Blanc.

The Matheson has built one of the most genuinely exciting wine programs in Sonoma wine country β the Wine Wall alone is worth the trip, and the depth of the broader list shows real intention. The markups on trophy bottles are hard to ignore, but if you play the Wall smart, you'll drink far better here than almost anywhere else in Healdsburg.
