You open the wine list at a steakhouse in St. George, Utah expecting a predictable spread of Cabernet and Chardonnay, and instead find nine dessert wines staring back at you. It's disorienting in the best possible way. Someone in this kitchen actually thought about this.
Every single bottle on this list is a sweet or fortified wine — Muscats, ice wine, Ports, and Tawnies, nothing else. The Port selection alone shows real range: Fonseca Bin 27, Warre's Warrior, Graham's Six Grapes, Smith Woodhouse, and a Dow's Tawny 20 Year sitting at the top of the ladder. The Kiona Red Mountain Ice Wine is a local-ish Pacific Northwest curveball that adds welcome variety. What this list lacks in breadth it makes up for in coherent intent — this is clearly a deliberate program built around the dessert course, not a forgotten wine list nobody updated since 2011.
The entire list appears to be designed for glass pours, which is exactly how you'd want to drink dessert wine at a steakhouse. We couldn't confirm exact by-the-glass pricing, but the format strongly suggests these are offered as individual pours rather than full-bottle commitments. That's the right call — nobody needs a whole bottle of Essensia with their crème brûlée.
The Bottom Line
Switchback Grille made a weird, committed bet on an all-dessert wine list, and honestly? We respect it. If you're ending your meal here, you're in better hands than you'd expect from a steakhouse in St. George.

Meraki is the rare fast-casual spot where the wine list actually makes you stop and think — the Greek producers alone justify a visit, and the depth-to-price ratio on the by-the-glass program is genuinely solid. Just don't spring for the prestige Champagne until they upgrade the stemware.

The Tack Room isn't trying to be a wine destination, and it succeeds at being exactly what it is — a dependable hotel steakhouse list with some solid bottles hiding among the Cab parade. Order the Spanish or Argentine options, avoid the trophy-bottle markups, and you'll eat and drink just fine.

Perry's Chandler is a reliable wine stop for a steakhouse night — 37 by-the-glass options and a solid sparkling section save it from being boring, but the markups and crowd-pleaser roster keep it from being great. Order the Tempranillo or Crémant and you'll drink well; chase the familiar California labels and you'll pay for the brand name, not the wine.
