Walking into Sueno, you expect mezcal and margaritas to run the show — and they do — but flip past the cocktail section and there's a wine list that actually has a point of view. It's not long, but it's leaning into Spanish producers in a way that makes sense alongside the food. Someone here made a deliberate call, and we respect it.
The list runs 40 to 60 labels with a clear Spanish anchor, which is a smart move for a modern Mexican kitchen — Spanish wine and Mexican food have more in common than most people think: earthy, herb-forward, high-acid, food-friendly. Producers like Mi Terruño and Bodegas Murviedro show up, and both earn their spots. You won't find deep Burgundy rabbit holes or an exhaustive New World bench here, but the focus is intentional rather than lazy, which counts for a lot in a cocktail-forward room.
Ten to sixteen pours by the glass is a solid count for a restaurant where agave spirits are the main attraction. Prices run $12 to $18, which sits in a fair range for Downtown Dayton. We'd like to see the glass list rotate more aggressively to match the kitchen's seasonal energy, but what's here drinks well.

Murviedro's value tier consistently over-delivers — structured enough to stand up to braised meats and bold salsas, priced at the floor of the bottle range. Easy yes.
Mi Terruño
Most people at Sueno are ordering cocktails, which means Mi Terruño sits quietly on the list without much competition. It's the kind of producer that wine-savvy diners recognize immediately — grab it before your tablemates default to a margarita.
Top-end bottle tier ($90)
Spending $90 on wine in a cocktail-forward spot where the storage situation is merely acceptable is a gamble we wouldn't take. The sweet spot on this list lives in the $40-$60 range — stay there.
Bodegas Murviedro + Tacos with braised meat
Murviedro's Spanish reds bring earthy backbone and enough acidity to cut through rich braised fillings without steamrolling the chiles and spice. It's the kind of pairing that makes you wonder why you ever ordered a beer with tacos.

Sueno isn't a wine destination, but it's doing more with its list than a cocktail bar has any obligation to do — and the Spanish focus is genuinely smart. Send a friend who wants something interesting in the glass without making wine the whole point of the evening.
