STK's wine list arrives looking impressive — 135 labels sounds like a lot — but flip through it and you realize fast that you've seen this list before. It's the greatest hits of American restaurant wine buying: Caymus, Rombauer, Whispering Angel, Kim Crawford. Every bottle a familiar face, none of them surprising.
The list leans hard on California Cabernet and Chardonnay, which makes sense for a steakhouse but leaves almost no room for curiosity. Reds are dominated by names like Bonanza by Caymus, Decoy by Duckhorn, and Caymus itself — safe, recognizable, and almost certainly marked up to match the room. The white selection follows the same playbook: Rombauer Chardonnay, Sonoma-Cutrer, Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc. There's a nod to Old World in the Champagne section with Veuve Clicquot and Moët, but that's about as adventurous as it gets. No Burgundy, no Barolo, no Rhône — just a list designed to let guests order something they've heard of without a second thought.
The by-the-glass program covers Bubbles, White, Rosé, and Red, and the producers on pour are exactly what you'd expect: La Marca Prosecco, Whispering Angel, Rombauer. It's functional, not inspired. Rotation or any kind of seasonal BTG program shows no sign of existing here.
The Bottom Line
STK DC is a vibe restaurant that treats wine as an accessory, not a feature. If you're here for the scene, the cocktails will serve you better than the list ever will.

Maydan's wine list is one of the most geographically coherent and genuinely adventurous in Washington, DC — it matches the kitchen's ambition and then some. If you're willing to let go of the familiar, this is one of the best by-the-glass programs in the city for opening your eyes to what the wine world looks like beyond Europe.
