Twenty-one bottles, twenty-one glass pours — Sovino's list is compact but clearly built with intention. You're not wading through a phone book, and that's actually refreshing. What's here has been chosen, not assembled by committee.
The list punches well above its size by ranging from a Quinta da Lixa Vinho Verde out of Portugal to a Dalmatian Pomalo Palvina from Croatia — wines most Central Coast spots wouldn't touch. California is well represented across Russian River Pinot Noir, Santa Cruz red blends, and a house Sovino Chardonnay from the Santa Lucia Highlands, but the international picks are what make this interesting. There's a Donkey & Goat Pinot Meunier — that's not a grape you see on most wine bar lists, period. The top-end slots go to Domaine de Courbon La Sauvage from Bordeaux and a LOLA Napa Cab at $75/bottle, which land as the premium anchors without overstaying their welcome.
Every bottle on the list is available by the glass, which is the whole point here. Prices run $10–$25/glass with the Quinta da Lixa Vinho Verde as the entry point and the Bordeaux and Napa Cab holding down the top. That spread is generous and means you can explore without committing to a bottle.
The Bottom Line
Sovino is a wine bar that actually thought about its list, which is rarer than it should be. Fair pricing across the board, a genuinely eclectic by-the-glass program, and a few bottles that will surprise you. If you're in Monterey and want something more interesting than the resort hotel pour, this is the move.

Mission Bistro has put together a wine list that's more thoughtful than the typical coastal tourist-trap bistro, with a Champagne section that actually earns its real estate and a Chardonnay lineup that reflects genuine Central Coast range. Pricing is fair rather than punitive, and 17 by-the-glass options means you don't have to commit to a full bottle to drink well. If you're in Monterey and want a glass of real Champagne with dinner without a hotel markup, this is a reliable place to land.

The by-the-glass depth at this level is exceptional, and the pricing is fair for a fine dining room on the Monterey Peninsula. If wine matters to you, this is the right restaurant in the region.

The eclectic regional reach, fair markups, and genuinely unusual picks like the Armenian Yacoubian-Hobbs earn this a Wild Card badge: it's not the deepest list on the Central Coast, but it's easily the most interesting one in Monterey. If you care about what's in your glass, this is the right room.
