Twenty-two labels isn't a lot to work with, but Satis Bistro clearly put some thought into which twenty-two they picked. You're not drowning in options, but you're not staring at a wall of Kendall-Jackson either. This list has a point of view.
The lineup leans European and does it with some personality — Domaine Des Varinelles shows up three times, which tells you someone here is paying attention to the Loire. You've got a Grüner Veltliner from Setzer, a Riesling from Reichsgraf Von Kesselstatt, and a Touriga blend from Portugal that most restaurants wouldn't touch. The red side is thinner, leaning on safe-but-solid entry points like the Bonfanti Malbec and Julia James Pinot, before jumping straight to Gaja Ca'Marcanda Magari at $150 — a big leap with not much in between. Theo's Special Selections add a curator's touch and give the list a little narrative arc.
Thirteen pours by the glass from a 22-bottle list is a generous ratio — almost 60% of the list is available in stemware, which we appreciate. Glass prices run $11–$14, which is honest for a bistro of this caliber. The Prima Perla Prosecco at $13 a glass gives you an easy opener, and the fact that both Cremant options exist at the bottle level signals they take bubbles seriously.
Setzer Grüner Veltliner 2021 — $42
Setzer is a legit Austrian producer, and Grüner at this price point is a quiet win. You're getting real terroir and a food-friendly white that most guests will overlook in favor of the Sauvignon Blanc — their loss.
Domaine De Cezin "Berc'Au" 2017
A Muscadet Sèvre et Maine from a producer who actually ages their wine on the lees — this isn't the thin, forgettable Muscadet from a beach bar. At $95 it's the most interesting bottle on the list that nobody's ordering.
Columbia Crest "Two Vines" Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Columbia Crest Two Vines is a grocery store wine with a grocery store price ceiling — it doesn't belong at $38 on a restaurant list when you can grab it off a shelf for under $12. Step up to the Domaine Des Varinelles Larivale instead.
Château Minuty Grenache Blend 2021 + Steak Frites
Minuty's Grenache-driven rosé from Provence is structured enough to handle a proper steak frites — the red fruit and dry backbone cut through the fat without competing with the dish. Classic bistro move.
The Bottom Line
Satis Bistro is doing more with 22 bottles than most restaurants do with 60 — it's a focused, honest list with fair prices and a few genuine finds. If you're eating in Newark and care about what's in your glass, this is your spot.

Spuntino earns its Wild Card badge by building a genuinely interesting dessert wine and port program inside what looks like a casual Italian tapas spot — that Vin Santo lineup alone is worth the trip. If you're bringing someone who wants to explore wine without committing to a full bottle, the flights make this one of the better low-stakes wine education stops in the area.

Nico is a pre-show pitstop, not a wine destination — the list exists to get a glass in your hand before you head into the auditorium, and it does exactly that and nothing more. Order the Chapoutier Rosé, enjoy the show, and don't expect the wine program to be part of the evening's highlight reel.

Tony da Caneca isn't a wine destination in the traditional sense, but it's the kind of place where the wine list actually makes sense with the food — and in the Ironbound, that's a quiet form of excellence. If you love Portuguese wine and grilled seafood, this is your spot.
