Wingman Metrics
The list at Roe reads exactly like you'd expect from a waterfront oyster bar — bubbly up front, some rosé, a couple of Chardonnays, and just enough red to appease whoever got dragged here against their will. It's not trying to be a wine destination, and it knows it. At $40 a bottle for several options, at least the pricing doesn't punish you for showing up.
The list leans heavily into the crowd-pleaser lane: La Marca Prosecco, Miraval Studio Rosé, La Crema Chardonnay, Sonoma-Cutrer — these are grocery store aisle regulars, not list-makers. The most interesting bottle in the room is the Ravines Riesling from Finger Lakes, which at least signals someone paid attention to the fact that Riesling and oysters are one of the great pairings in the known universe. The Peppoli Chianti Classico is a curious outlier — a solid Antinori label that feels slightly out of place on a seafood-forward list but isn't unwelcome. Pacific Northwest representation is thin for a Bellingham waterfront restaurant, which is a real missed opportunity given what Washington and Oregon producers are doing with whites and sparkling.
At least four pours are available by the glass, starting at $9 for the house option. The glass program skews toward the accessible and approachable — nothing that's going to challenge anyone, but also nothing that's going to embarrass the kitchen. We'd like to see more rotation and a local Pacific Northwest pour given the geography.
Fabre de Provence Rosé 2022 — $40
Provence rosé at $40 a bottle is a genuinely fair deal — this is the kind of wine that goes for $50-60 at comparable spots, and it's exactly right for a seafood-heavy meal on the water.
Ravines Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY)
Most people at an oyster bar are reaching for the Prosecco or the Chardonnay, which means this Finger Lakes Riesling is sitting there waiting to be discovered. Dry-leaning, high-acid, and purpose-built for shellfish — it's the best food wine on the list and consistently overlooked.
La Perlina Moscato (Veneto, NV)
Sweet, low-alcohol Moscato has its moments, but this isn't the context for it. With oysters, crudo, and Pacific seafood on the plate, you want tension and acidity — not dessert-adjacent sweetness. Order something else.
Ravines Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) + Fresh Oysters on the Half Shell
High-acid Riesling and raw oysters is a classic pairing for a reason — the wine's minerality mirrors the brine, and the acidity cuts through without overwhelming the delicate flavor. Skip the Champagne budget, get the Riesling.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Roe isn't a wine destination, but it's not trying to be — the list is fair, the pricing is reasonable, and if you know to order the Riesling, you're eating and drinking well on the water. Send a friend here for oysters; just don't send them expecting a deep cellar.
Downtown · Bellingham · Nautical-themed American contemporary / comfort food
The Admiralty Lounge isn't a wine destination, but it's doing more with a short list than most bars in its class — half-price bottles at happy hour and actual Sherry on the menu are the kind of moves that earn goodwill. Come for the cocktails, stay for the Fino.

The Willows Inn is as serious about wine as it is about the 14 ingredients it sourced from within a mile of your table. You're paying destination prices across the board, but the list delivers at that level — this is a once-in-a-while splurge that earns it.

Aslan Depot shouldn't have a wine list this good, and yet here we are. If you're in Bellingham and want natural wines in a no-fuss setting, this is the move.

Carnal is doing something genuinely rare in Bellingham: a tight, adventurous wine list that matches the ambition of the kitchen. It's not deep, but it's honest — and for a 17-bottle list, that's more than enough reason to trust it.

Come to La Fiamma for the wood-fired pizza and the vibe — both are worth it. Come for the wine and you'll be disappointed. Order a cocktail or a beer and revisit when they decide the list deserves the same care as the kitchen.

Mambo Italiano isn't a destination wine list, but it's an honest one — fair prices, genuine Italian representation, and a few bottles worth seeking out. Send your friends here for a casual Tuesday pasta night and tell them to order the Cannonau.

Half Shells Frisco is not a wine destination, and it knows it — but Monday's half-price bottle deal genuinely changes the math. Come for the oysters, grab a bottle of Santa Margherita at half off, and call it a win.

Jax KC isn't trying to be a wine destination and doesn't need to be — but the list is smarter than the room might suggest, with a few genuine standouts that reward paying attention. Send a friend here for oysters and Sancerre, and tell them to skip the markups on anything California.

The Walrus and the Carpenter is doing something deceptively simple: building a wine list around what's actually on the plate, in a neighborhood spot that doesn't feel precious about it. Yes, send a friend here for wine — especially if they think Muscadet is boring.
