First Impression

The wine list at Prime at Sky Meadow reads like a greatest hits of California Cabernet — and honestly, in a country club steakhouse overlooking a golf course and distant New Hampshire hills, that's not the worst thing in the world. There's no pretense here: this list was built to sell bottles to people who know what they like and aren't looking to be challenged. Wine Spectator handed them an Award of Excellence in 2023, and while it's not a stunner of a program, the fundamentals hold up.

Selection Deep Dive

The 150-250 bottle list leans so hard into California that the rest of the wine world might as well not exist — Caymus, Silver Oak, Jordan, Opus One, Far Niente, Rombauer, Paul Hobbs, Duckhorn, Stag's Leap, Beringer Private Reserve. These are all legitimate producers and the list deserves credit for stocking the real stuff rather than cheap California labels with big marketing budgets. But if you're hoping for a Burgundy, a Barolo, or anything with dirt under its fingernails, you're going to be disappointed. This is a list that was designed to make steak decisions easy, not to make wine discoveries possible.

By the Glass

There are 12-20 pours available by the glass, which is a respectable number for a room this size. Prices run $12-$18 a glass, which is fair for the market but doesn't offer a lot of adventure — expect the usual California suspects. No sign of a rotating program or anything that suggests someone is actively curating what's in the well.

💰Best Value

Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon — $40s (bottle)

Jordan consistently punches above its price point — it's a polished, food-friendly Alexander Valley Cab that won't embarrass you at the table and won't drain your wallet the way the Opus One will.

💎Hidden Gem

Duckhorn Merlot

In a room full of Cab-forward ego, the Duckhorn Merlot gets overlooked — but Duckhorn basically saved Merlot's reputation and this bottle is silkier and more versatile than anything else on the list. Order it with the prime rib and don't apologize.

Skip This

Opus One

Opus One is a genuine wine, but in a steakhouse setting at country club markups, you're paying a significant premium for the name. The same money gets you something more interesting if you push back a little — or just order two bottles of Jordan.

🍽️Perfect Pairing

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon + Ribeye Steak

Stag's Leap built its reputation on structured, elegant Cabs that know when to get out of the way — the dark fruit and firm tannins hold up to a well-marbled ribeye without turning the whole experience into a tannin arm-wrestling match.

✔️ The Bottom Line

Prime at Sky Meadow is exactly what it is: a well-executed country club steakhouse wine list with a California backbone and no apologies. Send your friend here if they love Cabernet and a view — just don't send them looking for adventure.
