Wingman Metrics
Walking into Piaf on Main Street in Grapevine, you half-expect a tourist trap wine list built around big California names and safe pours. Instead, you get a genuinely considered list that spans Sancerre, Barolo, and Oregon Pinot Gris β in a town better known for its Christmas lights than its wine culture. The jazz soundtrack and intimate room tell you this place is trying, and mostly succeeding.
The list punches well above its zip code. There's real Old World intention here β Jean-Jacques Auchere Sancerre, Chablis from Domaine Fourrey, a Bussia Barolo from Poderi Colla Dardi Le Rose, and Livio Felluga Pinot Grigio anchor the European side with credibility. The New World coverage leans predictably toward California (Rombauer, Far Niente, Cliff Lede, Silver Oak in both Alexander Valley and Napa) but also makes room for Oregon via King Estate Pinot Gris and Benton-Lane Willamette Pinot Noir, which is a nice touch. Texas gets a local shoutout with Messina Hof Private Reserve Tempranillo, which earns respect for regionalism even if it's not the highlight of the evening. Gaps exist β South America feels thin beyond the token 1865 Cab and Montes Alpha Pinot Noir, and the natural/orange wine crowd will find nothing here.
Eight or so options by the glass cover the basics β Carmel Road Cab at $9 on the low end, Hess Maverick Ranches Cab at $17 near the top, with the Messina Hof Tempranillo and 1865 Cab filling out the middle. The range is respectable for a wine bar in a small Texas town, but rotation appears limited and there's no real glass pour that stands out as a discovery moment. If you're looking to explore, the bottle list is where the action is.
Bussia Barolo β Poderi Colla Dardi Le Rose β $119/bottle
Poderi Colla is a serious, traditional Barolo producer and Dardi Le Rose is one of the better single-vineyard sites in Bussia. Getting this on a restaurant list in Grapevine, Texas at $119 is genuinely surprising β this bottle retails around $60-70, so the markup is real, but for Barolo at a wine bar, this is the bottle you came for.
Benton-Lane 2017 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
Most tables here will order the Rombauer Chardonnay or reach for Silver Oak and call it a night. The Benton-Lane is sitting quietly at $65 and is the kind of earthy, red-fruited Willamette Pinot that reminds you why Oregon exists on a wine list. Most people walk past it. Don't be most people.
Orin Swift Blank Stare Sauvignon Blanc
At $85 a bottle, you're paying a serious premium for a wine that retails for around $20-25. Orin Swift trades on branding and the Prisoner halo effect β and Piaf is charging accordingly. The Jean-Jacques Auchere Sancerre at the same price point is a far better use of your $85.
J. de Villebois Sancerre Silex, France + Mediterranean mezze small plates
Sancerre Silex β made from flint-soil Sauvignon Blanc β has that knife-edge acidity and mineral snap that cuts through olive oil, brightens hummus, and makes briny olives sing. The Loire meets the Mediterranean here in a way that feels completely intentional.
π² The Bottom Line
Piaf is a genuine wine bar doing real things in a town that doesn't expect it β the markups are a little aggressive and the by-the-glass program plays it safe, but the bottle list has enough depth and surprise to make a dedicated wine stop worthwhile. If you're passing through Grapevine, this is absolutely where you drink.

Farina's is the Wild Card badge in action β a charming, Texas-proud wine bar that sneaks in a Mosel Riesling and a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc between the house blends and live music. It's not trying to be a serious wine destination, but it earns more respect than it asks for.

Messina Hof Grapevine isn't trying to compete with a full-service wine bar β it's a focused, honest showcase of what Texas grapes can do, priced fairly enough that you can actually explore.
