Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Outback Springfield reads exactly like you'd expect — laminated, predictable, and built for people who want something red with their ribeye without overthinking it. That's not necessarily a knock. It's a casual steakhouse, not a wine bar, and the list knows what it is. No surprises, no pretense, no drama.
Twenty to thirty bottles deep, the list leans hard on California with a nod to Washington State and — appropriately, given the brand — Australia. You're looking at recognizable names that hit the sweet spot between grocery store shelf and 'I feel like I'm at a real restaurant': Kendall-Jackson, Robert Mondavi, Josh Cellars. There's no adventurous picking here — no grower Champagne hiding in the back, no left-field Côtes du Rhône to impress your date. What you get is a tight roster of crowd-approved bottles that cover the bases without embarrassing anyone.
Eight to twelve pours by the glass is genuinely decent for a chain at this price point, running $8–$14 a pop. The Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling showing up on that list is a small but real win — it's a versatile pour that most steakhouse crowds sleep on. Don't expect rotating selections or anything seasonal; this list is set and left alone.
Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling — $8
At the low end of the glass price range, this Columbia Valley Riesling is the smartest pour on the menu. It's a real wine from a real producer, it's refreshing, and it cuts through the richness of anything fried or sauced on the table.
Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling
Most people at a steakhouse default to Cab or Chardonnay on autopilot. The Ste. Michelle Riesling is a legitimate Washington State producer making wines that consistently punch above their price — and nobody at the table is ordering it, which means you probably should.
Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon
Josh Cellars is everywhere — your grocery store, your parents' pantry, your office holiday party. It's fine, but at restaurant markup you're overpaying for a bottle you could grab at Walmart on the way home. There's no reason to order it here when Mondavi is sitting right next to it.
Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon + Victoria's Filet Mignon
Mondavi Cab has enough structure and dark fruit to stand up to a filet without bullying it. It's a classic steak-and-Cab move for a reason, and at a mid-tier price point it earns its place on the table without anyone having to justify it.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Outback Springfield isn't where you go to geek out on wine, and it doesn't pretend to be — the list is honest, the prices are reasonable for a chain sit-down, and the Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling alone is worth knowing about. If you're here for a steak and you want something decent in your glass, you'll be fine.

We wouldn't send anyone to Applebee's specifically for the wine, and we won't start now. If you're here, you're here for the food, the vibe, or the company — and that's perfectly fine. Just know that the wine list is purely incidental.

The markup is shockingly fair, but you're paying near-retail for wines you could grab at Walgreens on the way home. Order a cocktail, order a beer, and save the wine night for literally anywhere else.

LongHorn Springfield isn't a wine destination — but with markups this low and pours this affordable, it's one of the better casual chain options in Illinois for a simple red with a big steak. Send a friend here for dinner; just don't tell them to geek out over the list.

Olive Garden Springfield isn't a wine destination, but it's not a wine disaster either — fair markups, a couple of genuinely decent pours, and prices that won't sting. Order the Chianti Classico, enjoy your breadsticks, and don't overthink it.

Texas Roadhouse is not a wine destination — it's a steak and ribs destination with a wine list that exists because it has to. Order a beer or a cocktail and save the wine drinking for somewhere that cares.

Springfield · Springfield · Seafood and Wine Bar
If you're here for the seafood, the Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling has your back and the prices won't hurt. But calling this a wine bar sets an expectation the list can't come close to meeting — order your glass, enjoy the crab cakes, and don't think too hard about what's in the bottle.
