Wingman Metrics
Lido sits oceanside at the Dolphin Bay Resort, and the wine list doesn't coast on the view β it actually tries. The presence of a sommelier and a Monday half-price bottle program signals that someone here genuinely cares about what ends up in your glass. For a resort restaurant in a town better known for clam chowder and ATV rentals, that's not nothing.
The list leans into its Central Coast backyard with Vignerons bottlings from Santa Maria Valley and an A.J. Cabernet representing the region β solid anchors. But where Lido earns real points is its dessert and fortified wine bench: Castelnau de Suduiraut Sauternes 2009, Inniskillin Vidal Icewine, Dow's Vintage Port 2011, Dow's 20yr Tawny, Taylor Fladgate 10yr Tawny, M. Chapoutier Banyuls, and even a local PasoPort Portray from Paso Robles. That's a rare amount of attention paid to the after-dinner pour. The Rare Wine Co. Boston Bual Madeira is a genuinely sharp inclusion that you won't find at most California resort restaurants.
Four options at $10 each β Vignerons Pinot Noir, Vignerons Chardonnay, A.J. Cabernet, and Opera Prima NV Sparkling β which is a tight but locally focused pour list. It's not a by-the-glass hero situation, but the local-first lean is respectable. If they rotate it seasonally, which the sommelier presence suggests they might, that's a net positive.
Vignerons Pinot Noir Santa Maria Valley 2023 β $10/glass
Santa Maria Valley Pinot at $10 a glass in a fine-dining resort setting is legitimately fair. The region produces some of California's better cool-climate Pinots and this gets you into that conversation without a second thought.
Rare Wine Co. Boston Bual Madeira
Most tables blow right past Madeira, which is a shame β Boston Bual is one of the great producers of an underappreciated category. Rich, oxidative, nutty, and nearly indestructible. Order it after dinner and you'll wonder why you ever skipped it.
Dow's Vintage Port 2011
At $120 a bottle, this is the list's outlier. Dow's 2011 is a fine port, no question, but without retail pricing context it's hard to know what you're actually paying for. If you want a post-dinner port fix, the 20yr Tawny or Taylor Fladgate 10yr Tawny will scratch that itch for far less.
M. Chapoutier Banyuls Languedoc-Roussillon 2017 + Chocolate Dessert
Banyuls is the classic French answer to the chocolate pairing problem β it's a fortified Grenache-based wine from the southern edge of France that has the sweetness and dark-fruit depth to stand up to rich chocolate without turning cloying. Chapoutier's version is a reliable expression of the style.
Monday β 50% off sommelier-selected bottles every Monday β promoted as a locals-only exclusive.
π² The Bottom Line
Lido punches above its resort-restaurant weight class, especially in the fortified and dessert wine category, and Monday's half-price bottle night makes it worth a deliberate trip. Come for the view, stay for the Madeira.

Downtown Β· San Luis Obispo Β· American gastropub / craft beer bar
Finney's is a great craft beer bar that happens to have a wine list attached, and the wine list knows its place. If you're here for wine, you're at the wrong table β but if your crew wants beer and you need something in a stem, the Margerum RosΓ© will get you through the night.

The Creamery / Downtown Β· San Luis Obispo Β· Wood-fired pizzeria / artisanal American
Bear & The Wren is a Wild Card in the best sense β a casual wood-fired spot that quietly stocks one of the more thoughtful Central Coast-focused lists in SLO. If you're eating here, you should absolutely be drinking here too.

Downtown Β· San Luis Obispo Β· Peruvian and Latin American Fusion
Mistura earns its Wild Card badge by doing something most Peruvian spots don't bother with: building a wine list that actually reflects where the food comes from. The execution has room to grow β markups are real, the list is thin in spots, and specials aren't a thing β but the instinct is right, and that Tablas Creek bottle alone is worth the detour.

Downtown / Marsh Street Corridor Β· San Luis Obispo Β· Contemporary Californian/New American
Nate's on Marsh is doing something genuinely worthwhile β championing its own backyard appellations in a region that deserves the spotlight. The markups keep it from being a destination wine stop, but as a neighborhood restaurant in San Luis Obispo that actually cares about where the wine comes from, it earns the trust of anyone eating there.
