The wine list at La Bicyclette feels like the restaurant itself — warm, unfussy, and quietly competent. It doesn't try to impress you with a tome of obscure producers; it just wants to make sure you're drinking something decent while you eat pizza next to a fireplace in Carmel. For a casual neighborhood bistro with Michelin recognition, that restraint is mostly a feature, not a bug.
The list leans into two lanes: California and France, which makes perfect sense given the kitchen's dual French-Italian personality. Monterey Peninsula representation is genuine — Bernardus Chardonnay anchors the local story, and it's a producer worth trusting. On the French side, you get Domaine William Fèvre in Chablis and Côtes du Rhône rouge, which together give you both an old-world white and a crowd-pleasing southern Rhône red without requiring a geography degree to order. The weak spot is that the list doesn't dig very deep outside those two corridors — no Loire to speak of, nothing from Italy despite the menu's pasta and pizza ambitions, and Champagne shows up via Domaine Carneros Brut Rosé (technically Carneros, not Champagne, but it's doing that job).
With an estimated 8–15 pours ranging from $14–$22, the by-the-glass program is functional without being exciting. It gets the job done for a quick pre-dinner glass or a mid-meal pour swap, but don't expect much rotation — this list has the feel of something that gets revisited seasonally at best. The pricing is honest for Carmel, where $18 a glass won't raise eyebrows.
Bernardus Chardonnay, Monterey County — $45–$55
Bernardus is one of Monterey's most consistent producers and this bottle drinks above its price point. In Carmel, where bottles routinely get padded for the tourist zip code, seeing Bernardus at a fair markup is actually worth calling out.
Domaine William Fèvre Chablis
Most tables in a casual bistro reach for the California Chardonnay and miss this entirely. Fèvre is a serious Chablis house — lean, mineral, zero butter — and it cuts right through the richer dishes on the menu in a way that the local Chardonnay just won't.
Meiomi Pinot Noir, California
It's on the list, it's fine, and it's absolutely everywhere. Meiomi is a mass-market, heavily sweetened Pinot that belongs at a grocery store checkout, not a Michelin-recognized bistro. There are better California reds to be drinking here.
Côtes du Rhône Rouge + Wood-fired pizza
A southern Rhône red — Grenache-forward, earthy, with enough fruit to handle char and tomato — is the textbook call for anything coming out of a wood-fired oven. It doesn't fight the pizza; it just makes both things taste more like themselves.
